ST G51, Italian Case
« on: June 26, 2015, 12:36:27 PM »
Randy,

This is one of your stunt modified engines I bought from you a few years ago and is still running great with plenty of power.
I am building a Strega and would like to use this motor in the Strega. My other option is a stunt modified Saito FA72 CL motor.
What do you recommend?

Thank you for your assistance.🇺🇸

Hi David
If it is built light the 51 will pull it, if it is too be a little on the heavy side and you only have just the 2 eninges  I would use the 72

Ditto. The Strega needs all the power you can throw at it. I wouldn't even consider an ST51.

The FA72 CL version was modified by Bob Reeves. Added RPM adjust screw in carb/Venturi to adjust RPM.
Is there any problem with engine performance when the Saito is mounted inverted?

I also have a new original VECO .61 and a new K&B .60 Gold Head that are options.

Brett,
Thank you for your input.

The ST 51 will put out more power than the Veco61 , you will need to decide , I would think about how much it will weigh, and be realistic about that, if it is to be on the heavy side it will need a lot of power, I would use the Saito  over the60 Gold Head, which maybe the second most powerful motor

Randy,

I went through my motors and found a new Enya .60 Series III CL ringed motor (new in box)!
Your thoughts for the Strega.

I remember a discussion I had with Bob Reeves who flew Saitos exclusively and he told me that
in his experience the Saitos ran best mounted sideways like a profile application.

In addition, there is not much room in the Strega's engine compartment to accommodate the Saito.

Hi David

You could use the Enya 60, the Enya is a powerful 60 ,people have use the ST60 before in that plane, the Enya will put out ample power, but whatever you use  keep the plane light straight and stiff.

Randy,
Thank you for your help. I will use the Enya.

Do you work on ST .60's? I have one of the older engines with the clamp on muffler and a short, gray Venturi.
Bought the motor used and I need it gone over before I install. I got it for the Hawker Hunter my ex and my kids gave me for Christmas a few years ago!

Let me know.
