Discovery Retro .60
« on: February 15, 2014, 12:35:55 PM »
OK, guys, I know this engine has been used in upper levels of stunt, so how does it compare?  To a good ST .60?  Others?  I have PA .51s and .61s and I know they are different animals.  But I want a base line to work off of.

Thanks!

I only have a few flights and several observations, but figure it's like an ST60 with 25 years more work done on it. Or. an ST60 that runs the way they were claimed to run back in the mid-80's, except this time it's true.

The most important thing is to setup the engine exactly as Yura made it originally. There are very few modifications that can really make it perform better.
I have explained the basics of this engine several times on this forum, so maybe you find what you need by using the search function. If not, send me a private message.

The best Retro 60 setup I have seen was in Adrian Dominguez's Shark.  He took the Retro out and put a PA-65 in there.  Somehow he got almost the same Retro quiet sound but he had more power and much less finicky run.

I would rather have the PA as well, but compared to the ST, I think it's a clear improvement.

Orestes found some modifications that improved the power, but I am not sure that it is supposed to be general knowledge.

People tell me that it's very hair-trigger on even 5% nitro unless you do something.
