Klotz KL200 is straight synthetic and mixes well with alky. Klotz KL100 is the same synthetic with 20% Benol Castor. Both are good depending on whether you want castor in the mix or not.

Tower Hobby generally has both, plus straight Benol. But you might also check around for a Go-Kart shop. Even some motorcycle shops may stock Klotz products. Ask Gordan, and say "hi" for me.  y1 Steve

There is also UCON LB 625 and I get quarts from Riches Brew
http://www.ritchsbrew.com/pricing.html

It is not listed but an e-mail will get responded to fairly fast

And here ON SH is Randy Smith of Aero Products than can recommend (and sell you some) a synthetic oil for a particular engine and use

Me personally I like Klotz Original Techniplate. My Stalker .51 runs superbly with this stuff in the mix. Very very clean too. In my wireless planes I've been using some Omega pre mixed fuel and found the cool power oil just fine too. Although messier than Klotz.

Just my two cents.

Daniel.

   Hi All:

What about using a synthetic oil that is sold for Lawn Boy 2 cycle mowers, Stihl Chain Saws, Amsoil 2 stroke etc?

These oils are a fraction of the cost of the oils sold at bike shops and are much closer to me.  Can you say 200 meters vs.  35 km!

I do not know how the synthetics would mix with alcohol. They are made to mix with gasoline and may not mix well. I use regular 2 stroke oil from Walmart to mix with gasoline or Coleman fuel for flying my sparkers and it works great. Clean burning and wipes off the plane easier than 70 wt motor oil. It also seems to run cooler than the heavy stuff. I kind of miss the odor of good old 70 wt. burning though.

Some of these oils DON"T mix with Methanol (I think that's right) I had purchased 5 gallons to mix my own fuel (and 5 gallons of Nitro) and went to the motorcycle shop and "Oh boy" bought a quart of synthetic to get started..........Guess what? It didn't mix ???  Frist gallon got discarded, lesson learned.  y1

Good luck, Jerry

Jerry, did you mix the oil and alcohol first, then add the nitro? That's SOP for fuel mixin'. I'd suggest trying a teaspoon full of this oil and 4 tsp. of the alcohol and see if a good stirring would make it work. Not a lot to lose, anyway.

Awhile back, I looked at the Amzoil site and sent them an email, asking about an oil to mix with alcohol and nitro "for R/C", but the reply wasn't positive. Probably too small a market to suit them. However, our local Go-Kart shop has Klotz...and there's a BBQ place next door!  S?P Steve
