On something like a Fox 35 it's pretty simple. But say you have a ball-bearing engine and all you can see with the back-plate off is the rod sticking out from between the two wristpin supports and there doesn't appear to be any slop in the wristpin. How do you check for a stuck rod without taking everything apart?

Hers what I think.... Should be enough room in the bottom of the piston to allow the rod to move back and forth a small amount. With the back plate off the rod should be able to be moved slightly to the rear. If it won't move still may not be stuck but the only way to tell for sure is to pull the liner. If it will move back easily it isn't stuck..

If the engine has been ran on castor (even 50/50) with no after run oil and it hasn't been ran in over a year the rod is stuck...

I can see about 1/32 or so of easy movement side to side on the wristpin.
