Title: Brodak engine bolts.
Post by: Joe Messinger on March 13, 2008, 10:16:18 PM
Well, I finally figured out what the heck size Allen wrench to use on the head and muffler bolts (screws) on my Brodak engines!  I imagine this is not any revelation to many who have these engines but I just discovered that it takes a 2.5mm Allen wrench to fit the darn bolt heads correctly.  I have, maybe, 6 sets of Allen wrenches three of which are metric.  None of the metric sets included a 2.5mm wrench so, not being familiar with the metric set up, I didn't know that a 2.5mm wrench existed.   My son gave me a set of metric allen wrenches this past Christmas which did contain a 2.5.  Just got around to trying it yesterday and it worked!

As I mentioned, this probably isn't news to most but, in the past, I have ask a number of people who have Brodak engines and no one seemed to know.  Just didn't ask the right people, I guess.

Regards,

Joe

Joe,
I carry around the Bondhaus (sp?) sets of Allen Wrenches, and they cover all the metric and US sizes (that I have run into). However I do notice it is about time for me to refresh the sets, since pieces seem to go missing.  HB~>

Alan,

Thanks for the tip on the Bondhaus wrenches.  Seems I never have quite the right size wrench I need.  I'll try a search on the net & see if I can find Bondhaus Allen wrenches.

Regards,

Joe

This set has 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3 and a couple bigger, but much smaller, lighter and cheaper than the bigger sets.  See if your LHS has this set. It's all you need in the flight box and on the workbench (i.e., get two).  y1

Yup, I have  much bigger sets in the rollaway for general purposes, and more of the bigger Bondhus sets at work for uh...work...ewwww!  :'(  Steve

Yes, the Bondhaus are the way to go. They are shorter, and have way better gripping handles. The hobby shop Du-Bro variety are too long and never seem to fit any where in the shop drawers, field boxes, etc!
