Title: Brodak 40 P/L set
Post by: Gordon Tarbell on June 21, 2007, 09:24:31 PM
If a brodak 40 P/L set is ordered do you get the latest a greatest version. I have an earlier B40 and it just does'nt run as strong or as well as some of the newer ones at the field. I was hoping to change the P/L set to get it to run better. I was under the idea that the timing has been altered or?

Gordon - the best source of information about the Brodak engine in John Brodak.

He can fill you in on any changes or revisions - if not, he may have you contact Tom Hampshire.

Thanks Ty and Bob , I use 10% 11/11 type fuel , I have added one head shim( I need to check I think .005") all kinds of props the one that comes the closest is Pro Zinger 11-4 sanded on edges. The engine seems to do ok with very different props it is just very inconsistant Throughout the run, even tried different style tanks. Right now it is running on a sulivan klunk with uniflow. Had this engine several years. even ckecked the alignment of the sleeve (did that when I got it) I will keep trying. I have another one I just bought from the LHS last week I think I will run it in on the bench and install it to see what if. Plane is a vector ARF.

I do not see why people are trying to run the Brodak 40 with a 4 pitch.  I think that people are really missing the boat.

I think it is infinitely better on 5 pitch or more, even a 11-6 is good.  If the break is harsh drop the nitro, add head shims, use a toungue muffler and start plugging holes, or add layers of panty hose to the venturi.

In other words, it is better running like a Fox 35 than an LA 40...

I found the 10 1/2 X 4 1/2 APC prop to work great.  A high rpm 4 cycle with a good break.

I ordered a P/L set  2 months ago and got the new style. Last weekend at the Brodak store all the P/L  were the new style.
