Title: Bad experience with Air Tool Oil!
Post by: frank mccune on March 18, 2015, 04:04:49 PM
      Hello All:

Awhile back, I began to use air tool oil for an after run oil in lieu of ATF.  Since then I have had bad days getting to get my glow and Diesel engines to start and run well.  They were very difficult to start and would run very poorly.

The next time that I took out the engines I thought about this problem and flushed the engines with carb cleaner and then rinsed them in glow fuel.  After that, the engines started first flip and had a great run.

The product that I used was Husky Air Tool Oil sold by Home Depot.  When I asked about this oil, I was told that was not designed to combust but the ingredients in oil would not burn.  Being a fairly limited person, I can not see the difference. Lol

In any case, in the future,  I will use it on my air rifle and use ATF as an after run oil in my engines.  Lol

                                                               Stay well,

                                                               Frank McCune

I've ben using Marvel, Sears, or Lucas Air Tool oil (not mystery oil) for the last 7 years or so.  I really load the engines up at the end of the year.  Come spring they have fired right up.

I have been amazed at how long you can smell it coming out of the exhaust after the first start of the day. It is easily a couple of minutes of run time. You would think it would blow a few drops out in seconds, but its very distinctive and you can tell most of the first flight.

I have used Air tool oil in my engines for over 30 years now, never ever had any problems with them not starting, and the air tool oil has protected them very well, ATF does not protect them as well, and can eat or swell the neoprene parts in some engines, same as Mystery oil has been known to do , just my experinces
It only take 4 to 5 drops , but be sure to flip the engine over well to spread the protection

and the smell last longer when running a pipe, the oil gets blown into the pipe, and hangs around inside the pipe for a while... the engine clears pretty fast.
