McCoy .35 vs. Brodak .25 swap?
« on: September 05, 2016, 07:29:17 AM »
       Hello:

Is it worth the time and hassle to replace McCoy .35 RH Stunt engines with a Brodak .25? The planes in question are the CG Shoestring and the Sterling F-51 Mustang.

I posted this question in the Classified Section for some reason and got very little response. Lol

It would be well worth your trouble to switch to an OS 25.  You could try the Brodak first, then switch to the OS.

LOL.

I am running an OS 25 in an Oriental.  It is light.  I cut off the rear NVA ala Phil Cartier and will run a front NVA setup.

Seeing that the McCoy and the OS are very different mounting dimensions, and I understand the Brodak shares the dimensions of the OS...  The exchange will be less than trivial.

Do you have plans for accommodating the difference in dimensions?  The McCoy is quite a bit wider.

    Hi Phil:

Thanks for the reality check! Why go through so much work for so little possible gain?

I have not tried the McCoys yet but I have run the Brodak and it is a great running engine.  What I was looking to gain, easier starting and less weight.  I would save about 1.5 oz. with the Brodak which may allow me to avoid using very little tail weight if any.  The F-51 is quite a small plane so less engine weight would be great.  I have a couple of kits for the F-51 so perhaps an old ST G20/.23 would be a good choice for those kits.

                                                                                                                   Thanks for the replies,
