Tank height on profile model?
« on: April 19, 2012, 08:41:14 PM »
I don't have a lot of experience with profile models so am not sure where to orient the tank relative to the spraybar orifice, which I presume is the critical reference point. I know it makes a difference but can't recall if the tank should be slightly higher than the center of the venturi, or lower, or maybe centered. Motor is a side-mounted LA25 with venturi-mounted OS NVA, 3.5 oz metal wedge tank, uniflow plumbed, presumably with fuel pickup at rear corner of wedge, running ram air (not muffler pressure). Operation will be near sea level at all times. I checked the archives and was surprised not to see anything apparently addressing this. I probably just missed it.

Hi Mike, would this be for the .25 stunt class contest? Anyway, it varies with engine but as a rule the pick-up and uniflow tube should be slightly above the spray bar hole. This is where an adjustable tank mount is pretty much mandatory. Sometimes it may be as much as 1/4" above but I have also seen centered work. If goes rich inverted, it needs to be raised. If it goes too lean inverted, lower it. Adjust till you find the upright/inverted run you want. Many like it just a little leaner when inverted, you decide. 8)

Hi Pete:

It would indeed be for Stunt 25. I can't seem to get pictures to post here but will try again tomorrow. I had the tank height analysis exactly backwards, as it turns out.

I have my stunt 25 plane finished also - went with a Brodak 25. Hasn't flown yet and my computer or camea is messed up so I can't post pics for now. The short answer is set the tank about 1/8" above orifice for starters. 8)
