OS Max 35S
« on: December 30, 2013, 02:23:49 PM »
Have been through all the old posts on the Max 35, about what made the engine
last, people have spoken about oil holes in the rod, I have an aftermarket rod with
one oil hole on the crankend, should I drill another on the wrist pin end.
Any thoughts.
Thanks
Paul

I wouldn't drill the rod. I think the next two weak points are the wristpin holes in the piston and the crankshaft bushing in the case. It's possible to rebush the case, but I don't know of a fix for the iron piston's wristpin holes.  I'm set to put an ABC setup from Brian Gardner in mine. H^^ Steve

Paul,

I will have another batch of OS35 ABC sets shortly and you are on the list mate. The set will include a rod.

Hi Paul

Yes , you can safely drill an oiling hole at the top of the rod, it is pretty wide at the top of the rod, and I did that to about 100 of these engines before I started making bushed.. and drilled ones., If the motor is not new and has been run, you may want to think about not taking it apart.
The ABC setups that Brian has done are great and are the fix to the weak piston problem of this motor. The other biggest problem is the metal pads on the wrist pin ends, those tear cuts into the sleeve, replacing those with Teflon or even delrin pads makes the piston/sleeve  fit last way longer
