Aero Products Reworked LA 46
« on: April 19, 2023, 12:34:15 AM »
Can someone recommend a few different props for this engine?  I am not sure the type of run that best suits the engine either. High rmp low pitch? Or run it like an st 46? The engine  will be going into a kit built vector 40. Thanks.

 Kevin.

  Hi Kevin!!
Try some 11-4 through 12-4 props. A lot will depend on the weight of the airplane. The gray Thinder Tiger props have worked well, a 11- 4.5, I think it is, APC 11-4 and 11-4.5, and APC 12.25-3.75. Those will get you started and you can test others from there. It will be a high RPM run in the 9500 to10,000 RPM range in the wet -2 mode. The Vector isn't a very big model but they seem to come out in the upper 40 ounce to 50 ounce range. HAVE FUN!!

The B Y & O props from Brodak have served me very well.  For the LA 46, I use the 11 X 5.  The Thunder Tiger 11 X 4.5 is also a good match for the LA 46.  The Thunder Tiger is heavier than the B Y & O so if you need a bit of nose weight, go with it.

Can’t go wrong with a Rev Up 12-5 cut to 11.5”

I was under the impression the timing was altered to favor a high pitch type of run. I could be wrong though. Anyway thanks for the prop size suggestions guys, Much appreciated.

Ask Randy to be sure, but if so, that would be very unfortunate.

I have one now and I had another one which I sold because of a difficult financial situation.  I bought it new from Randy and used 11-4's APC and Powerpoint.  It was happy with that.  Now I have another one which came with a gifted Pathfinder.  It had over 100 flights. It has been the best plane/motor combination I have had.  It had an 11x4.5 on it until I crashed it. I run it as has been prescribed here over and over.  Peak it out as high as it can go and then back of into a wet 2.
