Aero-1 Fuel Additive

Randy ( & those of you that have used it) - what are your recommendations for your Aero -1 fuel additive ? just wondering as I am planning on ordering some and am curious as to what quantity to fuel so I can judge a whole flying season for the fuel I will be using. Also, does the quantity make any difference if the fuel is a blend of castor & synthetic or just 100% castor ?

The instructions say 1 to 2 oz. per gallon of fuel.

I've used it for years and it does make a difference.  I add 1 ounce per gallon to my synth/castor stunt fuel, usually GMA 10/22, w/ 10% nitro.  2 ounces is overkill, a little goes a long way. My engines run better with the treated fuel than with untreated fuel.  I only use one ounce in all castor fuel as well.  How much will you need per season? , depends on how much you fly. I would think that a pint would last most people a year or more.

I have some Aero-1, but haven't remembered to add it to my fuel yet. Probably because of old age.  But I'm curious...in what way does it make your engines run better, Pete? Cooler? Fuel economy improved? Maybe it will prevent buzzed props and crappy Square 8's? That, I could get into!  y1 Steve

Hi Steve: The short answer - smoother, more consistent. Cleaner off/on 4-2 transistion.  Two engines I fly a lot - an OS S35 in a Smoothie and ST-51 in a full sized Vector  both have a tendency to go rich during the transition from the maneuver to level flight display a slight stutter there.  It was very pronounced in the untreated fuel, practically non-existent with the treated fuel.  Anyway, others experiences may differ but IMHO it's worh a try. Fuel in question is 10/22 GMA 10 % for the ST and 25% Castor Excaliber for the OS.  "Experiment" was conducted about 3 month ago  8)  And as you know, they say the secret to decent square 8's is written on the inside bottom of a fuel can, so keep looking!

I have religiously used Randy's additive over the years.  I have an Aldrich Jett 50 on my Rabe designed Bearcat.  Over 60 gallons of fuel in the last 9 years.  The engine is still strong and still tight on TDC.

There have been some tests that this additive lets the engine run slightly cooler.  My experience is that the engine seems smoother though I cannot quantify that statement.

As recommended by Randy, I put 1 ounce in 1 gallon of fuel, normally, the Power Master GMA mix of 22% oil (50/50) and 10 to 15% nitro depending on the altitude.

In addition to the other comments Aero 1 gives a remarkable resistance to possible damage during an overlean run.
We ,Charley Pate ,Mack Henry and myself were flying one sunday afternoon and Charley put up a flight on a new plane and engine (AeroTiger) ,it passed a piece of trash and ran for at least 21/22 minutes at about 5000/5500 RPM. We just knew it was absoulely burned down.
  After getting it home ,off came the head ,it had a slight brown mark at the exhaust port on the piston and the fit of the P/L still had the origional pinch.

Since then we have become big believers of Aero1 .

Hi Gene
NO matter what fuel you are using, it is very concentrated so only use 1-2 ounces per gallon. I use 1 OZ per gallon in any fuel I use. Of course the quality fuel you start with makes a differance, but the additive will improve any fuel
