Adjustable engine mounts?

Is there a proven way of fitting adjustable engine mounts so that different engines can be installed after experimenting? I plan to build the Super Clown over the winter using the ASP .15 first. If thats not enough power then I'd like to  put in the ASP .21 The .15 is 2.3 oz lighter (5.82oz) and it seems like a pretty powerful motor to do the job.  Thanks for any comments ...Phil

  P T G suggested to me use some 3/16"x3/8" 6061-T6 alum that can be bolted to the fuse, then drill and tap the alum for the engine size that you want to try, if that engine doesn't work make another set of alum mounts, that will bolt into the original mounts, drill and tap mounts and install new engine...

You have a couple options. Brodak sells a clamp mount kit..

I use hardware store 1.5 - 2 inch X 1/8 aluminum and cut it in strips on my band saw. Drill the ends for the fuselage mounting bolts then drill and counter sink the back for the engine. Use 4-40 counter sunk screws with lock nuts to mount the engine. This way you are not depending on aluminum threads to hold the engine and you can use thinner more easily obtained stock.

I fly a Flite Streak with a Fox15BB (on 0.012" 52 foot lines). I am guessing your ASP will probably work fine.

I hear Windy sells some excellent adjustables. On the other hand I've heard Brodak's are soft! Just hearsay, your milage...

The ones that come with the ARF's are less than optimum but do work more or less, the ones Brodak sells separate are the exact same as what Windy has.

If you use these types of mounts , use some blue locktight on them, or any good removable  thread locker

   For what it's worth,  I am using the Brodak mounts currently with an ASP .32 and a DS .40.   They seem to work fine as long as I check the bolts fairly often.
