Hello All:
Is there any reason why a fuel tank can not be mountd on the outside of the body of a Nobler like is the set up on a profile plane?

This is just my swag, Frank, but I would think that the farther out of centerline with the engine you get, the more centripetal force (I hope I'm using the correct term) that has to be overcome to get the fuel inboard to the NVA.

It'll be ugly as hell. If you mount it toward the inside of the circle then -- in theory at least -- you should get better fuel feed and (possibly) better speed regulation. The better fuel feed will come because the centripetal effect will tend to fling the fuel to the outside of the circle, which is where the venturi will be. The better speed regulation will come because -- if you're aiming for a typical stunt run -- the faster you go the more fuel pressure you'll have which will richen things up which will slow you down. The reason this regulation is only "possibly" good is because there may be too much head variation: you may have to launch so dreadfully lean that you'll never get up to speed!
But enough of answering the question you asked: let's move on to trying to talk you out of it. Why in @#$% do you want to do this? If it's just a matter of not enough tank space in a Nobler, that's a problem that can be overcome in a variety of ways.

I saw this set up many years ago and thought that it may be better than making and installing a new tank. I too thought that it would desecrate the great Nobler so I made a new tank and installed it.

I think it may be an interesting thing to try, or a good solution if you're in a hurry. But "desecration" is a good word for what it'll do to the looks of the thing!

They used that setup on AYSC (American Youth Stunt Championship from the 60's) airplanes that required an exposed tank. Ugly.
A Sullivan round clunk tank will fit in the Nobler and it works very well. If you don't want to make a new tank, this is the way to go.
