brodak 40 Needle
« on: July 29, 2020, 07:44:05 AM »
I have a Brodak 40 I am breaking in
seems to run very rich and can not turn the needle in to lean it out
If I squeeze the fuel line it will lean out
tried a second new in package Brodak Needle assembly  same problem
put an OS max assembly and worked fine
where there a bad run of Brodak assemblies?
  Can they be fixed???
thanks

Curious, but are there extra threads on the NV showing beyond the tension collet nut, when the NV is all the way in?  From the previous motorman reply, sound like there are, in which case there is no need to shorten the spray bar.

The Brodak NVA’s that I’ve used all worked . A trick that was shown to me was to seal one of the holes . Doing this makes it much more forgiving to set and probably easier to lean out . Try one ...if it isn’t working now what do you have to lose ?

Brodak NV's do not work like ST or ST copies. When putting it together you have to remove the locking nut from the spraybar, screw the needle valve into the spray bar until the unthreaded portion is well inside the spray bar, then screw the lock nut on and adjust it. It is designed to clamp on the unthreaded portion of the needle. If you put on the locknut first, the needle will stop when the unthreaded portion gets to the spray bar and act like it's closed. That position will be "Rich" and you will not be able to turn the needle in to get the correct setting.
If you had it together incorrectly and tightened the locknut you may have to use a tapered rod or punch to gently open the split portion of the spray bar to get the needle to function as intended again
Sealing one hole isn't necessary at all unless you're using it in a "sprinkler" set up
