TT GP42 : Venturis available ?
« on: June 21, 2011, 03:26:47 AM »
Greetings fellas from a very parched S.W.France.

Help please. Does anybody make venturis to fit the GP42  ?

As you all know it has the 'odd' two screw fixing into the 'case.

I don't have the equipment to drill the case and use a traditional venturi / NVA set up sadly.

Does anyone make a  venturi please with a flange at the base where the two screw holes would be ?

Much obliged for any help here ,

Robin.

Leonard Neuman at SSW should have them...Randy Aero might also.

I've been wondering what happened to Thunder Tiger in the USA. Turned out that TT bought Ace R/C and then Hobbico bought Ace R/C from TT. It looks like Hobbico is not interested in promoting a brand that competes with OS, which they import. According to this, they also own Wildcat (fuel).   D>K Steve

Steve,
There is a conflict of info here. The Thunder Tiger line is being distributed by Great Planes,Tower Hobbies. Engines, helicopters,ARF's etc. Now if they would just get the Cyclone props back in stock I'd be a happy camper. To the best of my knowledge Thunder Tigre has not been sold. But, I'm not privy to any inside info.

Where does it say that TT has been sold? I must have missed that.  D>K Steve

That was the first impression when Ai Ling shut down ACE simply because they gave such bad service that they were hurting the brand name.
I'm still puzzled as to why he did what he did. GP will not give prime shelf space to his products over their own. His engines are hardly footnoted on their sales rags. I'd hate to see TT up and leave as I've had a few of their engines that I've enjoyed using.

My understanding is/was that Ace R/C was the Thunder Tiger Importer/Wholesaler/Distributor, and they didn't sell retail. If that's correct, not sure how we'd know that their service was terrible.

I got good service from TT4U, and once asked where they were...SF Bay area of Calif. was the reply. I once ordered 5 bulk bags (4 x 6) of 11 x 4.5 Cyclones (split among club members) and some other sizes to boot. They emailed me to check if I really wanted thirty 11 x 4.5 props. Oddly, the props came direct from Ace R/C. I guess that was when I asked TT4U where they were. They sure went away quickly when Ace R/C closed down. I can't imagine why anybody would specialize in one brand like that, but this hobby has a history of weird business deals and problems. World Engines was one of my least favorites on a personal basis. The Rossi/Bill's Miniature Engines deal was another bizarre boondoggle that comes to mind.  n~ Steve

My understanding was that ACE was owned by Thunder Tigre and yes it was used as a distribution centre. The warrenty service judging from all of the complaints that were registered on the forums wasn't the greatest and quite a few had problems with orders received. Even allowing for a lot of false info in posts on these forums there was enough complaints to substantiate the info that it was sut down because of bad service.
I still don't see the logic of using Great Planes as your distributer when they sell competing brands.
I ordered lots of TT props from the hobby shop a dozen at a time and they always seemed to get them in a timely manner. Don't know where they did order them from or care as long as they arrived. Sure would like to see them available again.

Tower is currently selling the Cyclone props under the Thunder Tiger brand. Didn't bother to look at all the sizes, but they do have them.

Scott , a very good day to you from a hot and drought ridden S.W.France.

Much obliged for your kind offer.

I shall not now require a 'special' venturi to bolt into the 'case as I've bitten on the bullet and drilled thro' the case and fitted a suitable venturi and NVA.

I found a delrin venturi made to fit an OS46 LA was the right size. It just needed some filing on the underside as it was catching on the crankshaft.
I've inserted an OS NVA and it all works just fine.

I may replace the NVA with a Super Tigre NVA .

Many thanks for your very kind offer , it just goes to prove how polite and kind you guys are on that side of the pond !

Regards ,

Robin [ ex-pat Brit' in the Charente full of ex-pat Brits' ].
