I have seen that quote before but the later single ring thick sleeve version is the best one. The build quality was not as good on the early ones.

The last ones made were by far the best ones, the ONLY reason Billy Werwage used the early ones, was they were much lighter, he used them in Ares and Vulcan sized planes, until the Aero Tiger knock them out of his planes, very quickly
The early thins sleeve no lug versions were about an ounce lighter than the last ones made

Like Hillman Hunters ! ( Chrysler Crickets in the U S )
Two in a few days .
Havnt seen the truncated intake , cinch bar hole machined off , before .
Is this ' accident recovery ' ( snotted carb mount ) or the " 1/2 inch to bearer " version of some renowned or otherwise tuner / engine builder/s . Or just a co-incidance .
Why the reason for the shortened intake mount ??.
Thanks.

they were originally R/C engines and were machined to take am RC carb
-
You can see in comparison to this , the whole cabodle with the flats & cinch bolt ( spraybar here ) , about 6 mm , has been machined of on those last two .
Just wondering if its somebodys trick stunt set up , or if theres a more sinister explanation .

The top one was cut off at the factory to fit a RC carb that was very popular at the time . Many people put a needle like that one but it puts it below .5" I still have one. I rebuilt many but I did the needle different ,moving it up to.75" I never have seen a motor with muffler ears with cut off venture.

NOTE
I recently bought a new case with ears and it was a thin sleeve case. Fooled me on that one as I had never seen a eared case that was thin sleeve.
