Title: "Master" Brand Engine MAde in Italy
Post by: Dan McEntee on December 16, 2015, 09:06:17 PM
I rescued some more stuff off of Craig's List recently and among the engines was one I have never heard of or seen before. It has "Master" cast in the case on the right side (exhaust) of the case, and "MASTER" Made in Italy on the muffler. It has a gold colored head with only horizontal fins and the head is quite deep. It also has a number 4 on the left side of the case. Looks to be about a .15 or .19 size engine. Can any of you engine collectors and experts out there shed any light on this engine? I did a quick google and yahoo search that turned up nothing.
Thanks a lot and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Good morning,
from the description it seems that the engine is the "MASTER 4 ABC" produced in the 80s by Cipolla brothers .
At that time the Cipolla  were of a good competitors in the Team Racer and producing small lots of engines.
Some photos can be found here:

the Master -4 was a 25 ABC ,liked higher rpms ,started good ,ran one in an old time team racer in the mid 80's price was good. their F2C diesel was ahead of its time in technology but never had the quality to make it work in mass production

True, but we must remember that at the time the Russians engines and the FMV
of Metkemeyer brothers (with Henry Flores and Hans Visser) they were formidable rivals.
Moreover, the production of engines was a marginal business for the Cipolla.

I have an earlier version of the Master 4 which is called the C4 but it uses an iron piston and is Schneurle ported with all transfer coming through ports in the piston. The wrist pin is retained with circlips inside the piston. Think of a Schneurle ported Dooling 29.
