Title: Up and Running!
Post by: phil c on November 02, 2017, 07:41:36 PM
At long last, the core cutter is up and running- smoother, faster, and twice the torque on the motors so it doesn't drop steps.  In fact it's nearly impossible to grab the shafts hard enough to skip a step.

Totally new software- which took a lot of reading and looking at posts for problems to figure out.  But is should run for another twenty years.

11/17/17  Unfortunately, the long down time caused a couple of the slides to seize up.  I'm having problems getting that cleared up.  I can still cut limited numbers of matching cores, but it will be slower and take more work.

Please send me a message or email if you are looking for something particular.
Current order of things to cut:
Speed Limit/F2D
Streak RST
Dick Sarpolus' Too Windy nearly universal sport RC wing
Li'l Hacker Fast- 20 in panels
Li'l Hacker
Teosawki Leading edges

Thanks for your patience,  I know this tried mine enough!

It keeps trying to crap out on me.  the latest problem is that the program that translates a cad file into G-code decided to break.  It won't assign the right named to the 4 axes.  the guy that wrote it is trying to see what is wrong.  In the mean time it takes a trip through a wordprocessor to assign the correct axes names.(I can't cahnge them in the translator program).

Otherwise, the new motors and drivers are working much better that the old set up.  Not surprising that the tech has changed a lot over 30 years.  I added anti backlash nuts to all 4 axes for more repeatable cuts.
