We had a nice turnoutf, dor some lousy weather- 16 flyers, 30 matches. Bob and Andy Mears and their wives came out after attending the KC contest the previous weekend. At first we thought it was going to rain all day, but the rain stopped for awhile and the combat flyers came out. The last match of the day started in a brief break in the drops and ended in nearly a downpour. Several midairs in the last couple rounds stirred up the final placings The flying was good with quite a few hard fought matches. Bobby Mears took first with the most cuts and no midairs. Louis Lopez scrambled back into second place with a 3 cut match making up for a midair. Phil Cartier did the same in a 3-2 last match of the day in the pouring rain. Eli Cortez, a Junior, received the Sportsman trophy in his first contest, finishing ahead of several much more experienced flyers.
Many thanks to John and Buzz Brodak for hosting the meet, and to the judges Mike Stinson, Dennis Hastings, and Arlene Pyles, for handling the judging and scoring. The flyers were patient with the pace and showed a lot of sportsmanship helping each other to avoid delays and accommodate glitches in the schedule.
Hope to see everybody and then some back next year for the Grand Finale for the Brodak Flyin.
