Title: Tip Weight Location
Post by: Casey on October 16, 2019, 09:34:33 PM
Hi Guys

I have seen combat plans where the tip weight is located right behind the leading edge. I have also come across plans where the tip weight is situated close to the trailing edge. Does the location of the tip weight have any effect?

I like mine near the CG if you have a strong enough place to support it. Behind the LE is probably more secure than the TE . Combat models don’t get a lot of love at the field at times .

Just like any other weight, where you put it fore/aft affects the CG. Because of the small amount of weight, and the short distance ahead or behind the CG, the difference will be small. But still, put it where it will do you some good.

Times change.  In the olden days of AMA combat the engines were getting heavier so we needed tail weight.

Myself and other find the new F2D's to be tail-heavy, so we try to move whatever we can move toward the front.
