Seems that some time back I saw a "sock" to slide the O/B wing of a combat airplane into to launch it when by your self. Has anyone done this, and how did it work?
-
Yes it is very commonly done.
I've done it several times.
I've seen it done in CONTESTS when they were short-handed.
Sorry, no pictures today.

The sleeve is made with old carpet, fastened at the trailing edge.
It is attached to a base at about a 25-30 degree angle upward and mounted to a table at convenient working height.
The thrust of the running engine cocks the airplane to the right and makes the TE dig into the sleeve and hold fast.
I recommend pegging the safety thong to the ground in case something goes badly.
So then you run out, pick up the handle and step back.

I would like to learn more abut this myself. It does sound kind of straight forward, but I love to see illistrations of things I build.

the planes have a tendency to bounce out of just a sleeve. I've got one that eliminates that. I'll try to get some pics tonight and post for you tomorrow.

A little more work, but never fails.

Thanks Chad for posting this s the old DOC could not remember where he seen it. I have several ships that I need to get air borne. Now I can start constructing a combat stooge. I have watched the Minor boys with their F2D launching pad and did not think it safe for big 35 size ships/planes. #^ #^ H^^

I finally got a pitcher.
The thrust makes the plane want to rotate toward the right and thus dig the trailing edge into the crotch of the sleeve, thus tightening it even more.

made this out of a bicycle maintenance rack .
watch this at 1:15 Min.
