Any one out there has plans to the Quicker. The plans that came with the Cleveland kit? I want to build one to add to my old time Combat planes.

Barry Baxter's Plan Service has the Quicker - a Riley Wooten design, though I don't know if the Cleveland plan was of a different design. You can see a drawing on Baxter's web site.

I already did. The plans they have don`t have wing tips. Plus the cord looks wider than I remember. But, that was about 54 years ago.

In reality Gordon, have you contacted Riley about the Quicker. I used to have the magazine with the small plan in it and often thought of building one. But, the side winder engine design came into vogue.

just read your last post. the Quicker had 1/8 or 3/16 flat wingtips just added on to the last ribs i have a cut up set of plans u are welcome to

Gordy, there were two size Quickers originally in 1955. 9" cord for green head Torp and a 8" cord for Fox stunt since it had less power and was lighter. They both had soft balsa tips glued to tip rib. The 56 Nats winner and MAN plan was the best IMHO. When I started running small case Johnsons I came up with the 8-5/8" cord model which California Models kitted. They wanted tips so it had tips. The kit plans were 1/2 size. I don't think I have any full size "KIT" plans........ I lost most of my old plans in the Lone Star fire.

The Quicker was a popular design in the late 50's in my area. The top setup was a Johnson Combat Special and a pen bladder in plastic can behind the engine. The only major downside was breakage of the engine mounts in every inverted crash and some inverted landings.

The VooDoo used essentially the same wing with a side mounted engine and much-simpler stabililator. In the Detroit area, where combat was huge, the Quicker was instantly replaced by the VooDoo, including, I believe, some damaged Quickers converted to VooDoos.

All the old uprights on the late 50's, T-Square, Renegade, Hornet, and Quicker went the way of progress when we saw the light of the sidewinder engine mount.

Thanks everyone. I had several VooDoo`s also. But I`m building old planes that I flew way back when. At the 59 nats I talked to Riley and on the bench he had a Quicker with a side mounted engine. Riley thanks for the info. I wanted to built the kitted Quicker.

Cleaveland kitted Riley's Super Whatzit - Quicker wing with stab and elevator mounted above the trailing edge on stub rudders. Another outfit kitted the Quicker but I can remember the name right now.

Everyone's collection needs something a little less serious in it. Paul Del Gattos Super Whipsaw. I never saw one of these ever flown in a match anywhere. Built simply for nostalgia. Pat king made the kit for himself and I just had to have one also.

I saw Super Whipsaw go head-to-head with a VooDoo at a contest near Xenia, Ohio, circa 1961-62. The Whipsaw won the match on a kill. The VooDoo ran out of fuel and was landing. The Whipsaw got the kill and flew under the VooDoo through a space with just barely enough room to clear the ground and not collide with the VooDoo. Sometimes it pays to be lucky.

Simply amazing, I would have expected it to be the improved Whipsaw, the Stinger. The whipsaw was prone to wing flex and twist and PDG redesigned the model.

It was just a kit built Ambroid Super Whipsaw. At that age we were fearless, didn't know stuff like that wasn't supposed to work, pretty much lived for the moment, and had a ball...!

LOL...got that right. Sometime in the very early 1960s in Northern Illinois I won a Combat match with a Sterling T-Square, of all things. (In the next Round I quickly had my butt handed to me.)
