Centenniel Park, Toronto, Ontario, Saturday, September 27th.
Despite drizzing rain and cool temperatures, 10 flyers competed in what could be the last & final F2D contest in the current era. Unless saved by some sort of devine intervention, the event is condemed to the fate of Fast & Slow, the dreaded flyaway shutoff.
This contest was run under full two-plane double-elimination. It took 19 bouts to arrive at a conclusion, and ironically, not one single model escaped from the circle.
Pat MacKenzie 6-1
Ivan MacKenzie 5-2
Lou Scavone, Brad LaPointe, and Dimitre Valkanov 2-2
(It was getting a bit late to fly off 3rd place, and Dimitre had hit road, Lou got the CanAm, so Brad gets to plaque).
Dave Lovgren and Paul Smith 1-2
Walter Dordolo and Vadim Polack 0-2.
Not many pictures, we were keeping our cameras dry. Everybody's seen a Viko wid a Fora. As mentioned in another post, Lou Scavone clinched the CanAm Championship for 2008, by winning the most in seven of these contests.
Lets keep our fingers crossed for a reprieve of a shutoff we can buy and retrofit.

Paul,
Your right about the end of an era .Combat is actually developing a few new flyer's (and a few retreads). It will be a wait and see what happens next year.
Anyone looking for a "old" rules event would be advised to head to Phoenix in November or to New Zealand for the definitely last contest. December 31st I believe is the date of F2D at the NZ Nats, and it don't get no later than that!

Are there airframes to be bought "in-country" of will we need to bring our own to NZ?
Maybe they could also hold the first "new ruler" on Jan 1, 2009.
