Title: Pacific Northwest Combat Icon Don Mckay Passed
Post by: Fredvon4 on April 13, 2020, 09:52:17 AM
Control-line flier Don McKay, of Redmond, Wash., died in his sleep at 2 a.m. on April 7, 2020

Don, known as the "Combat Monster," suffered from early onset Alzheimer’s but developed lung cancer that metastasized and entered his brain. He died in hospice

Don was a friend of mine..me a staunch republican and Don the opposite. We never got heated in our debates of politics..very polite and gentlemanly arguments. What I loved most was how Don was gracious when I agreed with his POV and later he agreed with some argument I made.

He also had a long career on the hobby industry, mostly slot cars I seem to recall

RIP Don I will dearly miss our phone calls and emails

Don was one of the NW guys that encouraged me to get back into Combat flying a few years ago.  Always enjoyed his presence at the circle  (except when he would beat me!)

Sorry to hear Don has died.  Met him at a couple nationals,1990's  sometime when turn out was really petering out.  He had a unique style of flying, to say the least.
We all miss those who pass away.
