Combat Kitten
« on: December 28, 2021, 04:27:38 AM »
It seems the Combat kitten's control geometry is wacked. Way to sensitive. I cant wrap my head around it. Seems like way to much elevator throw with so little movement on the leadouts. I guess i have to make a handle with 1" line spacing.

And have the push rod in the closest hole to the pivot on the bell crank, and furthest hole away from the hinge line on the elevator, seriously consider replacing elevator horn with a longer arm version

I thought about cutting the sheeting open to fix the bellcrank throw or replace it but its to much work.

Moving the pushrod up from the elevator is a good idea Fred.

The engine offset also seems a bit extreme.

Motorman. Thanks for the suggestion but I dont want to start cutting into the wing or invest alot of time into this combat Kitten. It has other issues as well such as a warped wing. I can adjust the line spacing at the handle or raise the pushrod higher on the elevator and its ready for paint.

I'm just killing time waiting for my Fox 36 mk vi  powered Winder kit to arrive. 😈

Too much pushrod travel is NEVER a problem if you have the option of going to a taller control horn.

There is actually a mechanical advantage of the tall vs short control horn, even with the same net result.

If you can't put your hand on a tall control horn, just shim up what you have with wood.

The Kit I bought is named the Winder II, because it has several upgrades including the spar. Check it out.

That's going to need one beefy spar! I think Terry used spruce with the old SuperTigres.
The original winder was completely different than the winder II from Stan. It had a very thin airfoil and only one 1/4" sq spar down the center halfway back. All of Terry's were fiber glassed in the center. That was a big problem for most who built the sterling kit and didn't glass it; first hard corner would fold it. That being said the winder is a very small airplane for Mk VI kind of power. A reasonable size for that engine, in order to fly like a real combat airplane would be more like 450 sq."

Removed alot of engine offset. It looked extreme. Also, I am looking for a good quality image the cat if anyone has it.

If your last request was for a pic of the "cat,"  here is my Combat Cat....

One brushed coat of MonoKote. Center section has 0.00 oz glass cloth. Engine is a StupidTigre thirsty-five on case pressure using a heavily derusted T-21 tank.

You probably can't enlarge the Box art to get a sharp enough image but here it is anyway

Hey now!

That orange thing is a Russian whatchamacallit. I think they called it a Wing Thing. Plans were in some old, old magazine. Dawson built it, so I can't take any credit. Flys good though. Someone spent some time getting all the asymmetry just right so's it doesn't do anything goofy after you let go. All the goofy stays on the ground, where it just looks a bit....off.

I was going to say it was a perfectly competitive combatski model--until I tried cleaning it with RADS magical spray cleaner, and it kinda shrunk up all crooked. But that wouldn't be true. We never cleaned it.

The Divot

PS--There's an image out of the web of the decals for the Combat Kitten. Might be able to track that down....

I think I will pass on the decal. The Combat kitten and the decal arent that important to me.
