I'm planning on some Stunt contests that will also have 80 mph combat. Might be fun.
Anybody want to share what the hot setup is these days? Assume I have unlimited access to engines.

I dabbled in Speed Limit Combat by simply using existing old models slowed-down to 75 or 80 MPH, depending on the rules.
People who play to win use RFT F2D planes with 25's.

Are you flying 80 or 75mph? It makes a difference because you'll need a shut-off for 80. As for planes I fly Russian RTF with OS LA .25's (most any plain bearing .25 will work) or you can order cores from Phil Cartier and build foamies and power them with anything from .25's to .40's depending on wing area. If you want to buy and fly, contact the Russians. #^ #^

One of Yaro’s speed limit models with a.25 is very competitive.
.018 multi strand steel lines required - no exceptions. Helmets, 1 minute to launch, 4 minutes of air time. We use the 2 meter F2D center circle . Three or four events up here next year.

Also 60 points per cut, instead of AMA 100 points. No "2 quick cuts and land" :)

Slow Combat is dead. The only place it is still flown twice a year is Detroit as far as know. It was also killed as an AMA event in the last rules proposal cycle, being replaced with Speed Limit Combat. The vote passed.

Speed limit allows up to.40 plain bearing engines .
Brodak .40’s only weigh about 1/2 an ounce more than a LA .25 . I tried them , they worked well , realized that it was a complete waste of a great stunt engine. Back to .25s.

Guys,
I like to "roll my own" combat ships. Looking at the rules you require a cable from the bellcrank to the motor. If I suspend the bellcrank, have the shaft protrude and then have a crimped lug on each end of the cable, one on the bellcrank shaft and the other under a motor mounting screw do I meet the rules? Or is there an easy, best practice to follow?

Easy way is F2D style: use tube for the pivot and pass the safety wire through the tube.
Using a motor mounting screw is not the best plan, one reason for the safety wire is in case those screws come loose.

(BTW, I'm an aerospace engineer so unless you guys stop me I'll come up with something really expensive, like my neodymium magnet fuel shutoff for fast, LOL!)

Most folks drill a hole in the web under the crankshaft. Either use a small split ring, some type of heavy duty fishing clip, or the simplest- just terminate the cable like you would a leadout using the hole. Leave a bit of slack in case you use different planes.
