Title: Hi-perbilt Johnson CS
Post by: Lyle Spiegel on July 17, 2018, 08:16:06 AM
Found this while going through my files. Regret I didn't order one of these back in the day. Don't know if any of these modified CS still survive but if so, please post a picture.

I missed that one back then   Maybe that was one of the engines that Gene Dunham sold me that I put on a Big Iron for the 64 NATS.  It was a screamer until putting up a flight at Swope Park before the contest when the rod gave way and blew the bottom mount off the Big Iron.  I still have my book that Hi Johnson put out on how to improve his engines. There is a story that one of the Detroit combat flyers spent the big bucks for one of these.  Even then, $22.50 wasn't all that much of a leap from the usual $11 to $16 for a combat engine.

He ruined it by over-tightening the NVA before he ever got it run. The venturi had been opened-up to where the metal was paper-thin.

Sure would like a book like that for the museum. Would you like to sell it?
