Title: Hate it when engine bolts cost more than the airframe.
Post by: Greg McCoy on May 01, 2010, 08:29:24 AM
Coroplast $1.50, (road side signs too small) dowel spar $.25.

Ace hardware price for 2-56 allen head screws 4x $.77 = $3.08, lock nuts were about $.35 each...  so I passed on buying these and went to Radio Shack.

The plans are from Winnipeg Balsa Beavers.

What's the motor?  And is that a ping-pong ball that you're using to hold a balloon tank?

I get my hardware from one of the web-order places (Micro Fasteners).  I'm paying less than a dime a screw (I think it's less than a nickel), and now I have piles of screws instead of a drawer full of odds and ends, out of which I can always find three out of the four fasteners I need.

Those are golf whiffle balls. I'm going to use pipette bulbs for pressure bladders. Both engines are TD .049's.

The lines are going to be spider wire braided fish line.

I would be embarrassing to pull up a sign from the roadside to have it belong to a member at the model field.

Both sell good hardware in larger quantities at a good price.

Tell me about the price of screws!

I wanted to change the Phillips head screws that mount the muffler on my OS engines to Allen head screws.

Went to the Fastenal store 4 miles from my house.  I bought a box of 100 each M3 x .5 X 25 Metric black Allen head screws for $4.97 tax included.  They fit the SO 25 engines but were too short for the OS40 engines.

Went back to the same store and asked for a box of 100 each M3 x .5 x 30 Metric black Allen head screws.  They did not have them in stock but could have them the next day.   Their warehouse is just 15 blocks south of the store on the same street.

Went back the next day and asked for the 100 each M3 x .5 x 30 Metric black Allen head screws.

I paid $17.71 for the screws!!!

They added a "special order" fee and "special handling" fee to my order.

I will ask the price first next time.  Any one want some M3 x .5 x 25 or 30 Metric black Allen head screws?
