Gordan Delaney's New 1973 Challenger fast combat ship
« on: November 07, 2015, 09:51:03 PM »
Gordan recently built one of his personal favorite fast combat ships, the 1973 version of his Challenger series.  Also shown in the pictures is his 1971 Challenger from which, the '73 evolved.  Beautiful renditions of Gordan's proven, winning designs.

It's before my time, but those who competed against Gordy and his combat ships during this era could certainly attest to how formidable of an opponent he was and how good his planes were are.

The 73 has a 46" wingspan.

Once upon a time, I saw a garage sale that had some Fox combat engines in it. This was in the 80's and I bought all the stuff. One foamie was one of Gordon's.  I was flying Grander-dogs back then and figured this thing was too small and on and on...usual combat flyer rationale. Anyway, I gave it to a friend who put a mark 111 on it and it flew PERFECTLY. It was so well trimmed out and well designed, that it flew every bit as well as the larger wings. Unfortunately the spars were balsa and broke in wing-overs but it flew that well.

Steven,

Yes, I have plans for the Challengers. The small one in the pic is 340sq. 40 inch span. The long one is 46 inch span same cord. And there is the biggest one of 501 sq.  inch. Has more Cord and 48 in. span.

Try Staples office store if you have one.  I just had four copies made of the SIG Spad and Fokker,  only cost me $8.00.   Even the disc of Hutch's B-25 the guy only charged me $12.00 with a double copy of the ribs parts.   FedEx is where I used to go, but last time they got me for a copy of the plans I had(almost $20.00).

Steve and fredvon
The plans for the 40 in. span is the same. I just added one more rib to each side which is 3 inches each. That makes the 46 inch span.

Send me your addresses and I`ll get some copies made.

Sir, just a follow up to ask if you ever got copies of the challenger plan and how much I might owe you when you do?

Fredvon,

I have not got any copies yet. Sorry for being slow. As soon as I get them copied I will send you a set. Sorry for the delay. I think it will be $ 12.00 dollars plus shipping.

It will probably be after Christmas and New Years. I hope this will be OK.

Thank you
Gordy
