Thanks Andre, sounds like it's in my wheelhouse.
I enjoyed your story. I also like to fly wild freestyle crowdpleasers. That's why I love 1/2a Day.

This is my first big sized combat plane. I know I can keep it in the air, I learned a long time ago, if I have trouble staying ahead of it, just keep it turning and sooner or later it'll run out of fuel.

Rusty
I think you will be prepared from this thread, Andre's story, my note, plus your 1/2a experience. I had the attitude like Andre. I had a 20 year lay off and really wasn't that good of a flyer to begin with. Anyway I could grab my voodoo and get r done. In 2013 I finally got the nerve to fly it and my experience was very similar to Andre's. That thing was so far ahead of me that it was behind me(sounds like something Yogi would say). I can't tell you how it will feel compared to a modern combat wing because I never flown one. Al wants me to fly his Nelson powered barracuda but I'm scared shitless.lol
I'm excited to hear your report and looking forward to chatting Monday night.
I unveiled my new one tonight and got the approval from LS. He said I'm learning. lol

Yeah, Tom, you know it's easy to let a bigger than life imagination creep into your head when faced with something new. I probably need to just shutup to avoid sounding like a wuss and just fly the damn thing. I have a good test pilot lined up too. I'll put up some flights on an old beater to get my coordination tuned up ahead of time.
Do you guys ever pull streamers when you sport fly these planes? I used to do that when I was learning loops and stunts back in my old 1/2A days.

Shutting up now,
Rusty

Saw LS last nt and, of course, he remembered the name. Bruce Douglas. Pretty sure Bruce was eliminated early :'(.  I was trying to fly carrier and hanging out at the speed circle but do remember seeing some of the final combat matches. Awesome!!  TS

I hope Shawn and I can make it this year. Both of our work schedules have been a bit over the top. It's allowed for little flying. We do enjoy any flying we get in together. It doesn't matter if it's 1/2A, combat or stunt.  Unfortunately, it seems as though were not on top of our game being away from it all. Our pitbox looks like it was rolled down a hill, picked up, thrown in and the lid closed. It's a bit heartbreaking. He's in bed before 9, usually up until then getting things in order seems more like a chore rather than a hobby. I had a old silk covered Sneeker that was in need of a new tank. I pulled that out and got the new one in. The silk was orange and I had to cut out one bay to gain some additional access so I just put silkspan on it. All in all, I feel I did a excellent repair job as that wasn't a easy task to do without disturbing the pretty side of the plane. 2 of our planes had the engines swapped to Fox .36's. Last year my .29X in the WOW wasn't such a wow so it too received a new heartbeat. Ken

We got out in the rain today to run Rusty's. 36x NB. For nostalgic sake I gave it the LS diamond intake!  Al, reworked it and on 10% nitro we got a 108mph out of it! It sounds super!!

Thanks Al!!!

I'll drop it in the mail tomorrow.

I still need to finish my Voodoo i started over a year ago. Searcged forever for a metal tank. But i have bladder goodies now. So just need  to make a pod and finish it.   For fun flying. No combat.

Is this badass or what!
It flew in ahead of Hurricane Flo this morning.

After seeing this thing and drawing blood popping it over in my hand, I'M STOKED!
It would fly pretty good on a Flite Streak some day too, I bet, Lol. I like the diamond bevel on the intake, that's pretty cool.

Thanks, Tom and all of you guys that collaborated on it.

I knew, "academically" what a pacifier bladder was, but this is the first time I've seen one IRL. Now I know what it is.

Now you have the ultimate vintage combat  weapon!!! The Super Satan powered with a Fox 36x sporting a diamond ♦️ intake, re timed to Larry Scarinzi specifications. When you start that engine everyone will stop in their tracks from its mighty roar. I'm still amazed when the SS takes flight, it is definitely badass. I can't wait to here from you guys after you experience a piece of the LS legend!!!  VD~
FYI, your set up has 120 mph potential.

I can't wait to hear this gnarly bastard bark. I look forward to posting the first flight report.
Ken told me about Larry's work and signature intake and lightening bolts. I'd like to meet Larry one day.
Rusty

P.S. I hope we can have a show tomorrow night, but it depends on whether I have electricity and cable. Both are iffy situations. I'll have the .36X for show and tell.

Rusty,
You're quite welcome! As Al said you have a 1966 muscle machine there. On the line of a 427 vette tri-power! Lol

Sorry, did I not balance and sand the trailing edge of that prop? Oops!

Best of luck with it!

Im resurrecting this thread for our friend Rusty. I want to thank Holley, Rusty's wife, Will Davis, and Alan Buck for getti ng the plane back to me. We are going to do something special with this plane and I hope we can get participation throughout the country to fly this plane for him. After receiving this from me he never had the opportunity to fly it. His health just kept declining.
Ill be back to discuss what my intentions are shortly.

Thanks

I wonder who the artist was that came up with some of these decals. If i were to build a super satan, i would update the flames and picture of Satan. But i get it, its a nice ride down memory lane.

I believe the devil is Carl Goldbergs decal (artist?).
Larry did the the ring of fire snd flames on the stabilator. Those are not decals. Larry free handed them with a brush. According to Larry the stabilator flames were added to cover the celastic that holds the hinge pin in place.

Gentlemen,

Since things are a little slow down here, I figured I would share a couple of pictures of my new build. I purchased a couple of short kits (Action Ed) of the Super Satan, this one being totally original the next one will have some updates such as a modern  bladder compartment and a few other changes. The reason I titled this thread as 'finally" is, I have wanted to build this plane since I was probably 10 years old. I can remember my father, and Larry Scarinzi flying these in local contests in New Jersey when I was just a young boy.  Also, first Silk job since I was about 15 years old. Thai silk 8mm, which is a little heavy but it will work. I did run into some Clear issues mostly due to blushing since its been raining here for jeesh, I don't know. Anyway here she is, tipping the scale at a little porky 18.5 ounces. Brand new Fox .36xBB eBay engine and a Gerber 76099 pacifier. Probably won't get flown till early summer as I need to get a little more handle time before flying.
Howdy Tom.....if that's the first plane you've ever built I'd say it looks pretty good...!! H^^
