Yes it took me longer than I used to take years ago. Weighs 23 ounces, yes I build heavy. Power, Super Tigre G21 .35 on suction uni flo tank. Covered with SLC and all wood Brodak dope applied. Just need to find my old props I used to use. LL~

Now that is what Im talking about!!!!

Hey Doc,
That Equalizer looks great. What kind of covering did you use on it and when are you going to try it out? Can you fly it at the Northern Knights Circle without a muffler? How strict are the Knights on mufflers as I have a number of planes without mufflers and might want to come out to the site one of these days. ??? H^^
-
You can comply with that rule by cutting out a picture of a Midas or a Thrush from MonoKote and ironing it onto the wing. If you have to have muffler or your plane, put a muffler on your plane. Please, no glass packs.
-
Paul,
Your muffler suggestion is an interesting one! I like the idea and may try it out. I don't know how the R/C guys aroung the Northern Knights flying field would accept it. Maybe it would work if they had a sense of humor........TDurrill LL~ LL~ LL~

No problem yet with noise as someone flies a giant scale aerobatic plane that drowns us out when flying stunt. Besides we are a little ways from them when they are flying. Should be no problem with the new housing either. As I stated in first post, SLC covering with Brodak clear dope. H^^

Doc,
What is SLC covering.......never heard of it? It looks like clear Monokote or Fas-cal. Source?...........TDurrill #^ H^^

Hi Terrence,
Phil Cartier sells the SLC. Super light, strong, clear. Irons on and heat shrinks like plastic covering, but is paintable. Some Stunt guys use it then put OO silkspan over it to put the *20 Point* finish on.

A *sample* (as offered) will probably cover a good size wing.
Check out Core House SLC covering. 15.5 in wide 10-12 ft. sample $5 Super Light Covering

You will love how that big E flies...like a really really fast stunt ship. It'll do anything you want it to, and do it RIGHT NOW--but smooth as silk. It was one of my favorite 60's combat designs, won a lot of matches with it.

You do know that we are all really dating ourselves. 1960 just to refresh is 50 years ago. 120 MPH combat is nice to talk about but some of us would have our meds lock us out at that speed.

yah well, so what...Actually I think it was more like '62-66 or so, so that's just 44-48 years ago so there. and the big E wouldn't do 120, doing good to break 100 with it with that thick airfoil, but it lost so little speed in turns it seemed to speed up in a fight. It could get ahead of you if you weren't careful, turning faster than you'd anticipate.
A good point though...my current 67-yr.-old reflexes would never measure up to the old "fast" combat setups. Fun memories though.
I have one old combat wing from the 60s, with a Fox Rocket on it, pacifier pressure, that probably hits 90-95 mph, that I take out once in awhile just to prove to myself I can still fly it. Haven't planted it yet (I'll admit to some close calls though) but I always have to sit down and take a breather after a flight. I can't imagine actually flying a match with it...probably have a heart attack or stroke or something.

Hi Doc,
Very nice plane. Please let us know how it flies. #^
Do you know if anyone still makes a kit of this plane? TIA

Custom Cut Kits. In the Vendors Corner.
-
Doc,
Did you ever fly the EQUALIZER? How about a flight report........ n1 y1 #^ H^^ ......TD

Yeah what he said...the big "E" was one of my favorite combat wings of the 60s. Nice and stable, not twitchy like some of the others. Easy to fly "eyes-off", watching the other guy's plane. Kinda slow running straight, but turned so smooth and tight it seemed to gain speed in maneuvers. It would turn inside anything, well until the Nemesis came along...

The Equalizer has not been flown yet. A lot of planes are waiting to be flown. If I can over come the stiff knees that hurt like everything. Got a decent flight on the Firecat today. I was happy except for the start and over head 8's. Also got a flight on the King Sweep. It needs work. The Brodak .40 gave a shaft run at start and had trouble getting it to run. I think the crankcase, crank shaft are gone. The wind, what little there was caught the KS and it broke the spinner and popped top block loose.

You did a nice job Doc. I like the simple finish. :)
