Combat at the Kalamazoo Tour 'd Michigan

(1/1)

Paul Smith:
This was a first pass at flying a local breed of "sport plane combat" with "35-size" engines.

The outcome was:

Ed Brzys 2-0-1
Paul Smith 2-1-1
Jon Brzys 1-1
several flyers, 0-1

As were verified at the contest, the "gentleman's agreement" excludes engines like the Nelson and Fox Mark 3+.  Jon didn't really fly that bladder job, it was just handy for the photo op.

Hopefully, from now on, we'll fly by "cuts-and-airtime", not "cuts alone", so as to preculde future tie scores.

Just One-eye:
It sure looks like a straight elimination pyramid to me, one loss and out.

Paul Smith:
The basic concept of the T 'd M was just one flight in each event, 'cept combat, which was single elim.  With seven events in one day, you can't go to extremes on any one.

We has six entries so we flew one round, then added a bye (by coin flipping) to get from a "final 3" to a "final 4".

Ed Brzys won the bye to the final.

Ed & tied in the final 1-to-1, using "cuts alone".  At this point the management finally yielded to our requests and changed to "cuts & airtime".  A good decision, since the flyoff was also 1-to-1 with a few seconds in Ed's favor.
