Title: 2015 NATS
Post by: Dave Edwards on November 12, 2014, 07:39:21 PM
AMA has asked for input on the NATS schedule for 2015 before it is finalized on Dec 1.  Here is what is proposed as of today:

Mon and Tues 7/13 & 7/14 F2D
Wed 7/15 F2D Fast
Thurs 7/16 Speed Limit (unofficial event)
Fri 7/17 1/2A
Sat 7/18 Fast

If we want to have the team trials in Muncie on the weekend before the NATS we will need clear the dates with AMA soon.

That sounds good David. Arlene and I will commit to the team trials. I use my name there loosely because I intend to fly, and I cant officially be involved with judging or Event director and fly too. The official bids for the team trials will not go out until early next year I understand, but if we want to do it in Muncie we must reserve the spot in December this year I think. Do you know if this is right?

Bob is right.  The dates for the team trials should be reserved along with the NATS schedule.

I was coordinator for the last team trials cycle, which is supposed to be handled mostly by Colleen Pierce at AMA.

I was supposed to write up a report, but thanks to the excellent job Bob and Arlene did there really was nothing to report.  No protests were filed and there were only minor initial problems with getting the procedures running.  The real job for the next committee will be recruiting equally qualified and energetic judges.

Phil C.
ps.  I doubt we will get a better qualified bid for the next cycle.  the schedule is strenuous,  but any other site and time will make it hugely more difficult and expensive to run.

I have heard the last team trials described as the best combat contest in history.

Actually Howard, I'd nominate the one you ran, 1976 at the EAA(?)  120 flyers, at least as many good ones as at the last team trials.

One other one- the 1994(?) Lubbock NATS.  32 good flyers, only 2-3 midairs and a couple of airtime matches in the first two rounds.
