1/2A combat
« on: September 17, 2007, 04:13:08 PM »
OK, disclaimers first: I know most don't bother with 1/2A combat; I know virtually everyone uses foamies these days; nonetheless, here's my new, improved Rumbler, 1/2A built-up balsa wood plane.  Really sorta 3/4A I guess, I actually often use a Norvel .061 on it, since the only kinda fast .049s I have are VAs.  "Improved" in being lighter, simpler build, sidewinder engine mount (original used upright, finally gave it up when I got too tired of breaking engine mounts in inverted mishaps). 30" span, 180 sq. in., 5 oz. with engine.

Hey Ray,  will this feature a pressure tank?

Yes, I'll post the pics of it a little further along.  Surgical tubing tank in a film cannister container.

These things turn 'way too fast for suction to consistently feed.

Progress pictures:  Nose details, and pressure tank setup...vertical cannister because of space limitations.  Pretty neat little pinch-off valve, huh?  Handy enough to flip over to the "open" mode while the engine is running its prime out.

Also a coupla detail shots of my over/under leadouts.

How about a set of plans, or is this going to be a kit?  Looks good.  Have fun,  DOC Holliday

1 cc Events
« Reply #8 on: January 08, 2008, 06:37:14 PM »
I really wish people would call events with .061's by the their true name, "1 cc".

1/2A means under .050, and a we shouldn't be calling 1 cc scale and combat "1/2A".  Didn't Alice in Wonderland have quote about such things?

Hey, there's nothing bad about an .061, it's just not 1/2A.

You're right, maybe "3/4A" would be more accurate.  Not really "A" class, which includes .15s!

David, the plane has been flown many times, a few mods made (trimmed-down stabilator is the biggest one) and is about ready to kit.  I'll probably add it to my website in the Spring, along with the new Skywriter.

Just think in merry olde England I believe 1/2A goes up to include .09 engines.  An .061 is not that much different is it?  Anyway Ray keep us posted on the kit.  DOC Holliday
