Wanted: Hi Johnson 2" circular bellcranks
« on: July 21, 2025, 08:40:13 PM »
Anybody have any of these bellcranks stashed away that they will part with? 3-4 will probably last me the rest of my life. They are well suited for thin race plane wings. I'll buy them outright, or maybe we can trade for something you want or need.

I checked and what I have are reproduction Johnson bellcranks. Semi-circular about 3 1/4 wide. Is this what you are looking for? I have 3 of them.

The ones I am looking for are full circle, and about 2" diameter. Thanks anyway. I appreciate the effort.

How do they keep the line in those? Does it have lead outs and clips or just flying wire?

I've always used a single piece of leadout wire around the bellcrank, sometimes with external leadout connections, and sometimes terminating in internal monoline buttons somewhere along the wing. The bellcrank has a groove around it that the cable fits in, and the cable threads down and back up through the bottom flange of the bellcrank similar to the adjuster on the old "Hot Rock" handle. For a while in F2C, they used a single long length of flying wire with no connections between the airplane and the handle connectors. Now they use a small  conventional bellcrank and short leadouts inside the wing.

How about a 1 1/2" diameter circular bellcrank?  Johnson made them in two sizes.  This is the smaller of the two.

Thanks Ron, but I have a couple of them already. I feel like even the 2" circular bellcrank yields faster controls than a standard 2" bellcrank, and with the smaller one it would be even worse. I am trying to avoid extra tall control horns or extra narrow handle spacing by using the bigger bellcrank. I don't have an urgent need, just looking for stuff that will only get harder to come by. Maybe Dave Braun?
