Kits from Big Art’s Basement
« on: April 15, 2018, 04:17:32 PM »
Last summer we moved dad into assisted living, now we have to sell his house.  As you can imagine over the years he has amassed quite a few kits.  Our intent is to list them here first, and any that do not command interest will probably end up on ebay.  Prices shown do NOT include shipping which will be calculated on sale by sale basis (but guess it will be around $15 per CONUS) I prefer Paypal, checks OK too.

PM any/all kits that interest you!

All American Senior – AJ’s Free Flight Service, OTS legal.  51” span, 510 sq. in., 24.5” long -  $65

Lark – Ed Southwick design, Classic Legal 57.5” elliptical wing, 620 sq in. 42” oal, Classic Legal.  Smith’s Model Products kit. This is a premium kit, includes the hardware which includes a Tom Morris Bellcrank and 1/8" double arm control horns. $225 SALE PENDING

Lion Tamer – PDQ.  Purported to be the UGLIEST model ever committed to kit form yet has a reputation as an outstanding flyer.  42” span, 380 sq in, 27” length - $75

Twin Terror – Consolidated kit.  Twin engine combat wing – really!  52” span, 520 sq in, two 15-19 engines.  I know I could make a dandy electric out of this. $75

Manx Cat– Consolidated kit.  Tail-less (thus the name) biplane (huh?).I have seen You-Tube vids of these, then seem to be fairly docile... $75 SALE PENDING

Trident (aka U-Name-It, aka No. 570) I went through this and it appears to be complete, most of the parts are punched out.  Seriously, I would only recommend to a builder who might have to improvise some, do not bid if you cannot handle it. $75

PT-19 Midwest Kit. Dave Hemstraught’s design from the early 1960’s.  Great flyer, a rare kit with some unusual kit engineering.  - $150

PT-19 - Walter Umland Kit.  Dave Hemstraught’s design from the early 1960’s.  Great flyer & Walter’s kits are unbeatable.  - $200

Spitfire – Walter Umland’s structurally modernized version of the old Sterling kit.  I have a Sterling kit that is a surprisingly good flyer.  At the very least, Walter’s kit will build better than my Sterling did! $200

Galloping Comedian – Walter Umland kit of Red Reinhard’s terrific flying OTS design. $155

Nobler – Green box kit.  All complete, down to the Top Flite wraps on the die cut sheets - $100

Nobler – Green box kit in shrink wrap.  Proven winner from the Classic era - $100

Original Nobler - Brodak kit of the original 1951 version, OTS legal.  Still in shrink wrap, I think it is the die cut version.  $75

Oriental – Brodak kit, still in shrink wrap, I think it is the die cut version - $75

Original Thunderbird – Brodak kit, still in shrink wrap. The original T-bird used an upright engine with a speed bonnet cowl and a turtle deck style canopy. I think it is the die cut version - $75

Stinger – Brodak laser cut kit of Dale Kirn’s V-tail Goodyear Racer styled OTS design.  Good flyer $120

Super Bipe – deBolt Kit - $100

Big Iron – Doc’s Generix CL-Kits.  Carl Berryman design. $50 SOLD

Voodoo kit 1 – Goldberg kit $50

Voodoo kit 2 – Goldberg kit $50

P-40 Flying Tiger Stunter – Goldberg profile kit, 43” span $75

Shark 45 – Jetco Kit.  Lew McFarland design, “The greatest stunt model ever designed”. Sez so right on the box!  But seriously folks, Sharks fly really well.  $150

Scout – Veco kit, all punched out, 24” span, 120 sq in, 18.5” long $35

Papoose – Yellow box (pre-dates the checkerboard box) Built just like the Chief and Squaw kits. $65  SALE PENDING

Polliwog Chief: Henry Engineering – Veco products company kit.  $100 SOLD

Chief kit1 – Aero Engineering kit of the later non-polliwog airfoil version.  Dad always said the Chief was about the best stunt trainer out there, he bought & sold many!  $85

Chief kit2 – Aero Engineering kit of the later non-polliwog airfoil version – box is rough.  Dad always said the Chief was about the best stunt trainer out there, he bought & sold many (except these two)!  $75
SOLD

Thunderbird – by Veco. This is the second version, with inverted engine, bubble canopy, 610 sq in wing, over/under leadouts and even includes the controversial differential flap horn set-up (hint, don’t use it) . Dad built a couple of these  $125

Firecat #1 – original Jim Walker kit, complete right down to the hard plastic wheels.  The level of prefabrication and pre-shaping is phenomenal. Using CA glue is should be possible to have this one ready to cover in under 2 hours.  Fantastic flyer too.  $250

Firecat #2 – TCI Industries. A gallant attempt to duplicate the Jim Walker kit, outstanding quality and content, TCI opted for Sullivan wheels, included an Acme Fuel Tank, and a nice set of hardware from Hobby Fasteners.  Collectible in its own right.  $200

Hawker Typhoon - Custom Models kit based on my NATs winner.  Profile fuselage, foam wing. Plans show engine mounted on the inboard side of the fuselage per Frank Williams approach to side mounted engines.  Nostalgia 30 legal in 2019.  $85

Skylark - Custom Models kit.  Profile fuselage, foam wing. Plans show engine mounted on the inboard side of the fuselage per Frank Williams approach to side mounted engines.  Nostalgia 30 legal in 2019.  $85  SOLD

Flite Streak ARF – Top Flite.  Dad threw out the hollow fuselage and built a normal solid fuselage – which needs to be finished.   $70  SOLD

Perky – Blackhawk Models Kit, new in shrink wrap  $50 SOLD

PT-19 – Blackhawk Models kit, includes Cox Sure Start engine tank, prop, control handle & lines.  $55 SOLD

Skyraider Profile Carrier model – by G-S Products corps.  38” span, 306 sq in, includes a 3-line bellcrank - $75. SOLD

Buccaneer B Special – Berkeley kit for you SAM members.  Interesting design features, “wing slots prevent whip stalls” and “Tail design arrests spins”.  $100

Guys if you do Pay pal do not use gift...use pay for items/services....but consider adding a little extra to defray the PayPal costs... The seller can not ask for any extra by the PP rules

I traded that Midwest PT-19 to Art for some work he did on a K&B 40 for me.  I thought he was going to build it.

He thought so too! He built two others and really liked the bird.
