Black Hawk Grumman Skyrocket 1/2A kit
« on: February 10, 2025, 05:36:56 PM »
This is the signature product of Black Hawks Models.
I bought one to use for 1/2A Scale competition.  But rather than build the kit, I copied it and enhanced it with scale dihedral and a stronger wing.  The kit remains intact.

I was able to win the AMA Nats and take several other contest prizes with my Blackhawk Skyrocket.  It was tail heavy with two TD .020's, but with Black Widow ,049's it did seven consecutive perfect contest flights.  It goes even better with TeeDee .049's.

I am offering the kit of $100 which includes US shipping. Anyplace else is $80 plus actual shipping cost.  I'm not quitting or going broke.  I'm just offering to pass this iconic kit to somebody who NEEDS it.

I shipped the package today.

I got bit of education from a new USPS employee who told me I could not use Duck Tape to seal the package.  I have used Duck Tape in the past with two other postals and the packages made the trip without incident.  She offered to tape over the Duck Tape with "legal" packing tape for a $3 service charge plus possible added weight cost.

I went home pealed off the 200-MPH tape which I used for added protection and replaced it with clear packing tape.  This might have slightly reduced the weight cost.

I also paid a $2 premium for air vs ground delivery.  Not that I'm in a hurry, but last time I went with the lower-cost way and the 4 days ground ended up being 16 days.  I'm testing the theory that the USPS punishes customers for mailing the "cheapest way".

I have found the opposite to be true. From where I live, there really is no difference between Priority 2 or 3 day and Ground Select or whatever it is. Priority always seems to take the same amount of time as Ground Select and they won't refund anything if the package is a day or more late. Pirateship helps out a lot. A recent kit sale i made showed over 20 bucks for the cheapest USPS Gound rate as opposed to 11bucks for UPS Ground. It does vary and sometimes UPS is more. Getting quotes on different days seems to make a difference also. As far as the duct tape goes, I've experienced the same as you. I got packages taped that way with no problem but local office wouldn't let me ship the same parts in the same container back to where they came from. I think some USPS people think there is metal in it or something, like the high temp aluminum duct tape does. I don't even attempt that any more.
  Type at you later,

This postal deal came to a happy ending with both the product and the check arriving in the US Mail on February 18th.

This time I paid the premium price for 3-day vs 4-day service.  The difference was astounding.

USPS promised delivery in 3 days and got it Oregon only 6 days.  But I got 17 tracking messages, which were entertaining to read.

I sent my previous package to Iowa the least expensive way with a 4-day promise that resulted in 14-day delivery. I only got three tracking messages.
Dropped off Jan 21.
Arriving late Jan 25.
Delivered Feb 3rd.

The nine days with no tracking reports caused me to fear that the package, an irreplaceable  kit, had vanished into postal never land.
I guess they educated me not ship the "cheapest way" which was the object of the lesson.
