?? Use any parameters you want for choosing, but I hope it isn't "necessarily" the "best flying" one you've had.

Hi Bill, I think there should be some really interesting responses to this thread.

Any way my favourite classic model would have to be the "Ramrod" as kitted in Australia by montgomery models. It dates back to about 57' or 58'.

Originally designed for an O.S 29, 48" span, constant chord flapped wing, upright engine, bubble canopy, all sheet tail surfaces and spatted gear. Powered with a Merco 35, it was the model I really learned to fly the pattern with.

I intend to build another one before long, the last one was 34oz and I will aim for 30oz with the next one via a lighter engine (O.S 35 max S) which will mean less tail weight and a "lincoln log" type wing ( the strip ribs are already cut and waiting in a drawer!)

All in all an outstanding model.

Bill,

I always loved the "Detroit style". Very racy and cool looking. I'll never forget reading the February 1960 MAN article about Charles Mackey's Lark. I was in my very young, formative years and that was the ship that started my lifetime love affair with CL Stunt.

So I would have to include the Ares, Argus, and Cobra in my list with the Lark. They were I-beamers (the Lark was not) and I loved their looks, but could never build a decent I-beam ship. Maybe someday.... <sigh>

Easily, the JD Falcon. It just does everything you ask it to do!

This is the kit prototype, which was painted to match John D'Ottavio's paint scheme. We even took a sample of his custom mixed orange, so that it would match.

Tom - I agree that the Falcon is the leader for me. BUT I have a bone to pick with you, SIR....... Your kit of the Falcon is so good that I can't bring myself to build it. Now, is this some kind of a plot to sell them in pairs, one to build and one for a keeper?

Tongue firmly in cheek, of course, but this kit is the best I've ever seen. Hope to build mine this winter. Tom H

He has never claimed (to me at least) that his kits are perfect. But they show up at my door in that condition every time.

Yes, I have a pair of profile Roadrunners - one to fly and one in the box. Excellent in every respect. Because he used a picture of my first one on the box of the second, it's doubtful if I will ever be able to build it. Thanks, Tom.

PS - The RR has now been converted back to glow power. The electric motor worked fine; the Brodak 40 works just a wee bit better.

Bill,

The Cardinal is what we call an "Instant Classic".

I showed up at the GSCB Classic contest a few years ago and had a great time, actually winning the D'Ottavio trophy with my old Oriental. It wasn't until a week or so later that I realized one of the competitors was flying a profile Cardinal.

We all had a good time anyway and I later learned that the GSCB guys would rather let someone fly than exclude them if that was their only airplane.

Ron,

I liked the "Instant Classic" catagory! In that case, I have several. (Cardinals, that is.)

However, my favorite classic is-------don't know, yet. Classic stunt models are the biggest reason I decided to fly CL after so many years away.

I guess since I have a Cavalier 540 and am waiting on Tom Morris to send my
Cavalier 650, I must favor the Cavalier.

But those I-beamers are so pretty--------.

I'm a big fan of Palmer designs, especially the T-Bird II, and Hurricane. The Mathis Excalibur and Veco Warrior are special to me, as I actually flew them back in the olden days. The Bill Simons P-39 and Lampione's F-86 are models I always lusted after. Also GMA's MAN Peacemaker. But I think my favorite is probably the Tucker Special. I hope to get my RSM kit of the Tucker built by Spring '07. Or '08.

Thanks for the compliment. The poor thing is actually looking a little tired now.

This plane uses a Brodak 40 engine and a 10.5 x 5 BY&O prop. My second Oriental used an OS FP35. The design flies very well for such a simple straight wing.

Absolutely, without a doubt, my Skylarks are the best of my older airplanes. Have flown 4 over the years, 2 are still flying. Have 3 more still in the boxes.
