Jack Sheeks award for VSC XXI, 2009
« on: August 11, 2008, 09:31:46 AM »
John Miller and I are again coordinating plans to present the  perpetual award for the Best Jack Sheeks Classic Stunter starting at the Vintage Stunt Championships, VSC-XXI, starting March 17th, 2009. We are hoping that Jack will be available to be the judge.

In addition there will be an award for the highest placing Jack Sheeks airplane!

Jack Sheeks is perhaps the most prolific designer of Stunt, Scale and RC airplanes of our lifetime. In addition he is one of the nicest people on the face of the earth.

During the Classic Era, (1953 to the end of 1969) Jack published, designed, approx. 20 CL Stunt airplanes. From that time to the present, Jack has published 27 more airplanes in Flying Models alone!

Following is a list of Sheeks airplanes that are eligible for Classic Stunt. This list will be updated if more information becomes available. I want to thank Jack Sheeks, and Frank Fanelli of Flying Models for their help in compiling this information. Special thanks also to Robin Sizemore, and the Cholla Choppers.

Hi Tom and John:  Just an unsolicited suggestion here:  At the appearance judging have a separate area for the Sheeks designs or at least a separate row for all of them to be viewed together.  Although there were not a lot of entries last year, they were sort of lost in the mix.  8)

Your welcome Tom and John. I'm looking forward to seeing your Sea Vixen Tom and hopefully Tony Naccarato's Stuka.  I hope to have a Ryan SC complete but had better get busy cuttin' parts!  y1

Pete,

I talked to Bob Hunt today. He said that He and Rickii Pyatt will help to place the Sheeks airplanes together, since this will help when they are taking pictures.

I was hoping that someone would build the Ryan. It looks like it will fly well. We all have a lot of work ahead of us.

Here is my "Sea Vixen" as of today. I am working on many nit picking items, but hope to have it in primer very soon.

If they had placed all the Sheek's planes together I would have gotten negative points for appearance.  Mike Haverly's plane was one gorgeous piece of modeling.  DOC Holliday

Ty,
The blue is "SuperFil" by Poly Fiber that I use for fillets. With all the contours, the "Sea Vixen" is like a flying fillet! I just hope none of them pop.

I have been sanding a few days now preparing for the primer.

I use 0000 steel wool over the open bays. This helps to avoid sanding through I-beam ribs. This is a trick that I learned from Bill Werwage, when I built my "Argus". I didn't go through any ribs on that project. I pray that I can be as successful on the Vixen.
