Title: Veco/Dumas Chief leadout position

I'm building an old Dumas Chief kit and am at the point of adding the wingtip parts and installing the bell crank.  Are there any suggestions as to where to put the leadouts and how much to space them?  Should/can I make them adjustable with the roundish wingtip?  Or should I just put the front line at or slightly in front of the CG point?  HB~>

In case it matters, the wing and tail are all kit wood but the fuse is new balsa probably a little lighter than the kit wood.  Was thinking of using either an ST40, LA40/46, or OS 40H.

Hi Dennis,

BY all means make them adjustable.  The Brodak or RSM adj. LE guides are pretty cheap.  Of course, you can make one pretty quickly, too.

I would probably go with the LA .46 and slightly extend the LG for prop clearance.  All of your chosen engines will use props longer than the 10" prop the Chief was designed around.

Good thought on the landing gear Bill, Thanks!!!   It was missing from the kit so I have to bend one up anyway, I'm glad you said something!!! y1
