Two come immediately to mind:
* The Midwest 48" profile.
* The Sterling 38" profile (since OTS designs are also eligible for Classic.)
Each would probably fare better with wing-mounted gear.
Other suggestions? Anyone? Anyone? ("Buehler? Buehler?")

Do you know what the recommended engine size was on the Midwest ?
I was wanting something that would work good with an LA46, Stalker51, or DS54.

LA 46 should be perfect for the Midwest design. Of course it's been out of production for many years. Perhaps try Barry Baxter's website for plans?

One other thought: Although he no longer produces kits, Larry Richards (richardskits@att.net) once made repro' kits of the Midwest series. He may still have plans. Worth a shot . . .

I flew my kit-built Sterling Mustang for around 6 years in Old Time, Profile, Classic and AMA stunt.
Took home many trophies including two or three in AMA stunt against many larger and more popular designs.
Fixed flaps, wing mounted gear, one inch of dihedral, internal pushrod, powered by an OS Max 26 four-stroke.
26 ounces.

This was discussed in a thread below a while back and the conclusion was the Midwest profiles came out after the Classic cut off date. Sad but true I guess.

I've flown, and always felt that Dick Mathis's Excalibur, makes a perfect three event comp plane. Classic, Profile, and Pampa. It really is a great flying design.

I had asked about P-51 for Warbird Classic and Profile. But the Excalibur sounds interesting. What are the numbers on the Excalibur, wing span/area and engine size.

There are 2 versions, the first is classic legal, the second is Nos30 legal.
Many like the second thinking it is classic legal. It has a different type of wing, a C tube wing. They feel that the first version has a wing that is too pointy, and skinny. don't let the looks fool you. With its turbulator spars, it flies so much better than I would think.
Here's the specs.
Span 51.5" Area, 563, length, 36.16"
I powered mine quite well with an OS.35S.
The design is easy to scratch build with a low parts count.

I thought the Brodak Warbird series was the Midwest designs.? I have the plans and template drawings for the ME109.

Well hate to say it, but they aren't. The Brodak warbird series have better air foil and are more scale like. H^^

I've built an Excalibur. It's a nice flying plane.

I have crashed an Excalibur,, they crash wonderfully,,
I xcant really say how well the fly,, Thanks Marc Conner,, sigh,, He let me fly his in Salem,, It was a long weekend, I recall crashing my profile practicing, then my Ukey, which I repaired and flew again, Marcs Excalibur( he did not fuel it enough and I ran out overhead) and then bought on the site a Tutor Too from Mike which I ripped the gear out of,,
oh yeah, it was my second contest,, way way back when

You really can't go wrong with one of the Brodak Warbird series. I have several and was doing patterns on second flight.

I think some of the cougar or Mustang designs would qualify.
