Anybody have a picture of it? Also how much difference from the Sweet Sweep? I have flown the Sweet Sweep with maneuvers on each lap as tank is not big enough. Great little sport plane that looks a little unusual in the air.

Doc, the Sweet Sweep was used as a combat plane in the 1950's and won first in Nationals Junior Combat as I recall in 1956. I believe Kenneth Knotts used a K&B .35 Greenhead on his planes that year. What are you using for an engine on your Sweep? I always wanted to build one of those and missed getting a kit when they were being offered by a custom kit maker a while back. I guess could get some plans from Barry Baxter...hmmmmmm

There was a King Sweep by Larry Grogan, Flying Models, Sep 59.

This would be Classic legal.

Hi Doc,

I have always looked at that plane in the PAMPA plans book. It has a few eye catching items, but it seems to have a really big stab, and tiny elevators. I wonder what kind of a turn it would have....

If it turns like the Sweet Sweep it will need taming down. Walter did include the article about the planes and the Grogans. I remember reading about the Grogans taking most of the hardware in speed events at the NATS. Never got to meet them.

With the weather like it is, I couldn't work on the shop doors I am replacing. The flaps have been on the wig for a week or so and I have been sanding on the the Stab/Elevator. As the cut out in the tails surfaces is quite large I used some hard balsa I had laying around. Just need to break the elevators loose and put in control horn and hinge them. The wing pictures show my version of the lucky boxes. They are nice and smooth right now.

Finally got the fuselage framed up. Yes I am slow. It is sitting upright and has very short landing gear.

Doc, I recalled that the LG always looked way forward of where it should be. Just looked at the drawings, and it sure as heck is. It should be a challenge to land well on asphalt.

Well it is in one peice except for the cowl. Have several coats of clear on the flying surfaces and a couple on the fuse. Have a few more spots to fill and sand. As it is in the stand it is at 40 ounces. Of course I build heavy.

In third pic the bump at the stab rudder joint is trying to cover the UHP 4-40 metal clevis for the elevator. Have about 30 degrees each way on flaps and elevator.

Can't beleive how much time I have spent on the cowl. Of course made a tank for the plane also. Now it is to the doping and sanding. Any volunteers for this part? Forget it they would make it look better.

John Here is a picture of my "Jet". This picture was taken in the early 60's. I still have the plane but have not flown it in 10 years. I started with a .29 in it and later put a Fox 59 in it. I thought you might like to see it as it is very close to your King Sweep. My controles were very crude compaired to what is used today. The bellcrank is allmost touching the flap horns. I built a second one with much better controls and that one got flown a lot and is no longer around. Eric V has been after me for years to draw good set of plans so it could be Pampa classic legal but I just never get around to it. I still have the brown paper plans I drew in 1961.The lead out position on these planes is critical and I got it correct on mine.

Well the weather was so nice yesterday. First time it has been this warm for some time. I had the plane all covered waiting for the color. So I dig out all the stuff and found a jar of paint. Set up outside the shop and started painting. Once done was back into the shop and unwrap it. I have done worse.

Well she will not fly at VSC. Back to the old P-39. Bad warps in wing and light at 42 ounces. Wind, what little there was caught it and it is twitchy. Nosed in and broke the spinner, prop and popped top block loose. Had a shaft run at start of first flight or should I say only flight. It needs work but will be flying soon. Will also have to replace the Brodak .40 as the crank shaft to crank case is very sloppy. More later as we have four more days of flying in this beautiful Arizona sunshine with temps in the 80's and very little wind. Met a few more new people that are on this forum. Seen a lot of cameras out with people taking pics. I am up early tomorrow and maybe I can get some pics.

Hey, I am having a great time. The P-39 is filling in nicely. Especially since I have got the needle set and small adjustment on the Big-D Handle. The LA 46 has been starting 1 or 2 flips. Yesterday worried about over run and today had about 8 laps after the clover. See score sheet on other posts. I have done two flights in excess of 400 points. Maybe I will learn to fly it one of these days. By the way it gained 5 ounces from last year. Now 69 ounces.
