Cox P-40 help needed
« on: April 27, 2010, 12:53:49 AM »
I have a Cox P-40 Warhawk and I'm trying to pin down the year it was made. If you know about such things and can assist me I would be able to email pictures to you.
Thanks

I can't nail down the exact Day One, but I'm sure it was on the market by 1962.  I'll try to dig out some old mags & get you something better.

Incidently, the plane debuted the "Super Bee", which was a Babe Bee with a TeeDee 2-port cylinder.  That got everybody I knew (which was quite a few) to upgrade ALL existing Babe Bees and Golden Bees.

The early version also had the engine inverted I seem to recall. Later were side or top facing cylinder.

If the plane is in good enough condition you might take it apart and check this out. Apparently at least some of the Cox planes had a manufacture date stamped with ink inside them. I've got a N.I.B. "Super Sport" that has a date stamped inside the fuse this way. It looks just like an old library stamp or something. If I remember right it's October of 1976 on mine.
Narrowly averting disaster since 1964!
