Jack Sheeks and Jim Verholt. I couldn't believe how long the wing was till I tried to lay it out. 60 inches seems like a lot for a .35.

since the prototype ME 262 flew with two jets and a piston engine in the nose and was a tail dragger, this one is going to be set up as a taildragger.

I've been meaning to ask...what's the plan for the foam nacelles? Will they be skinned with thin balsa, or a slurry of epoxy/micro balloons and covered with CF Mat, or what? Will air flow through them, or will there be a blind hole in each end? And what power do you plan on using?

I began thinking I would use an OS 35S but after seeing how big a wing it has I thing I'm going to go with an FP 40. The pods are covered with medium silk span and then several coats of minwax. That seems to provide a pretty good skin. Not bulletproof but hopefully sufficient. I was going to hollow out the pods but if I do I can't put in the cone at the back and the simulated starter covers at the front. I don't think I'll lose that much weight hollowing them out.

It's starting to take shape so I can begin to visualize the finished product. Time to start carving the top block and then a ton of sanding.

this will be the single seat version. I haven't found a commercial canopy I like so I think I will be carving one. Top block is next. We had a good Saturday this week (first real flying day of spring) so I lost a day of building. Hopefully I'll get more done this week.

I am thinking of cutting down a Sig 9" WWII style canopy for the single seat version. Just work it around and play with the angles to get the outline.

I have been waiting for some Nelson Hobbies paint to arrive which got here today. I made a canopy out of coke bottles heat shrunk over a balsa mold which came out pretty good. Had to make it in two pieces but I think it will look ok joined at the back of where the canopy would normally swing up. I decided to hollow out the foam jet pods which worked very well by using a hot 1/8 rod to melt a hole length wise through the pod and then thread the hot wire through the hole. Hopefully I will be painting in the next week.

starting to take on the look of a ME-262. Only have one color to work with so I'm only showing the bottom. Hopefully I will have the top color this weekend. So far I am really impressed with the Nelson Hobby paint. The color was applied with a foam brush and the amount of paint used was minimal.
