Pics from ME 109 by Jack Sheeks, anyone?
« on: January 18, 2013, 03:43:42 PM »
Howdy gents?
The ME 109´s designed by the great Jack Sheeks are IMHO one of the prettiets models ever designed, especially the one in G version.
Does someone have pics or built models using this project?
Thanks in advance

Hi Carlo,

I built the "C" tube wing Me 109 several years ago.  So far, I have not built the I-Beam "G" version.  The I-Beam G is a fair bit larger.

The earlier version flew well with a Fox .35 and still exists, but the wing was very damaged by a buddy's puppy!

flogged from you know where .

If the rear deck carried straight thru the rear glazing , to the flat birdcage hood , it'd sit a bit lower LIKE THE PLAN , and the front windshield would be pretty much korekt .

Is a ' Galland ' clear view hood for the F & G's too , F&G are V similar , G is a gruntier injun .

Nasty little blighters .

Nasty Merlin engined Spanish Ha 112 . With a cowl for our purposes .

Nasty Galland Hood .

Nasty Gallands Me e before Galland Hoods . But you can see how it fits together there .

Some Derivitives could be problematic at times .

Fox 35 spanish one , removable wing . Early world chumps or somesuch .

B.o.B. Film type cowl scribbled on it there .

 Hey Matt, that's a 262, not a 109.

Not a Sheek's design, but Sheek's inspired. The profile is right off of the Sheek's plans. The wing is a set of Twister cores, and the numbers are Fancherized Twister. It will be electric.

Jack Sheeks had two Messerschmidt 109's published in Flying Models.  (He called them Me 109's, but the correct prefix is Bf 109's.)  The first was in April 1970 shown below and has a C-tube wing.  The second  was the "G" version with a Detroiter type wing and was published in May 1977 which is pictured in the post above by "Sport Pilot".

I will agree that the second version (the "G") in the photo above looks better.  It is not easy to readily capture the appearance of the 109 for semi-scale stunt.  Compared to CL stunt ship numbers, the full size 109 has relative small wings compared to the fuselage coupled with a very long tail and a very small horizontal tail (similar to another fairly well know German fighter, the Focke Wulf 190 [any series] and even the long nosed Focke Wulf fighters.)

There have been several other semiscale 109's published, including one profile, but the Sheeks' "G" version is probably the most attractive and most readily identifiable as a "109".  An interesting thing shown on Jack's plans  --  that Detroiter wing can be built with dihedral, like 3/4" under each tip from root chord line to the tip chord line.  Unless Jack did some of his other semi-scale models with Detroiter wings and dihedral, I am not aware of any published stunt ship with a Detroiter wing that had dihedral.

And another interesting thing about that Sheeks' "G" model.  That Detroiter wing had half ribs.

I am not trying to hijack anybody's thread, only just trying to provide some additional information on an interesting subject.

Avaiojet, my profile 109 is not yet in primer. Just looks that way. I covered everything in SLC, and then again in silk-span, followed by one coat of Nelson water-based clear. That will allow me to fly it and see if anything drastic is needed before I do a final finish.

Charles, the Nelson paints are fuel proof if you mix in the catilzer (spelling ?) I think they advertise that even without it they are fuelproof up to 10 percent nitro. The wing on my profile comes out to about 54 inches because of the added wingtips to the basic Twister cores.

That 109G looks great!  Any challenges/dislikes so far?  Lots of pieces to cut?

What will you use for power?

Can't wait to see it in paint.
