Title: OK, some help needed
Post by: Randy Powell on January 09, 2008, 06:46:28 PM
Somewhere, somewhere, I had some pictures of Bernie Ash's stunter "Supersonic" (also called The Supersonic Stunter). Now that my computer is up and running again, I was looking for them but they are nowhere to be found.

Could someone post some pictures of this plane?

Thanks

Well lets hope for #2

JUST TAKE A CLOSE LOOK AT THE SMALLER PHOTO ON RIGHT!
If I remember correctly...did the article state that all folks who do helper pit crew who launch that model HAVE TO EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION...to keep from being IMPAILED by those sharp little radio annt. on THE HARD WAY..  IN HANGA' HANDLING ACCIDENTS.

I found out myself on my very first 67 nats STING RAY....those snazzzy little antenna thingeee's just ache to snag sleeves..wiping rags...or anything that so easily gets in the pathway of those little critta's. LL~ LL~ :X

Thanks guys,

Man, that is a LONG airplane. The canopy in the pictures certainly doesn't match the plan I have. But it does make it easier to come up with something. On the plan, the canopy extends almost to the spinner. This one looks much shorter. so I should be able to come up with something that works.

Did I mention that it's a LONG plane?

Mark,

Yea, may need to borrow my neighbor's semi with full sized sleeper.

It's "only" and 62 in wingspan (wonder what it is measured along the highpoint?) and the templates for the fuselage sides fit on a 48" piece of balsa. Hmmm...

Thanks Ty!!

I plan to build it as fatefully to the plans as I can. That includes the canopy he shows on the plans (which is not all that much like the one shown in the pictures). I may have to mold it, but that's fine. Should be fun.

I don't know if the thing will fly worth spit. But who cares? It will certainly be a blast to build and fly. And is should be unique, anyway. I think (just rambling here) that I will consider something like a General Dynamics test plane paint job. Maybe something red, white and blue. It's either that or a Terran Federation Naval Service (TFNS) colors. Long story, that.

Let me know what I owe you for the reprint.

y1 I sorta like the Terran Federation Naval service color scheme, It would certainly make it stand out.  #^

John,

According to David Weber, the inventor of the Terran Federation Space Navy, the colors would be dark blue, silver and white with yellow markings. Hmmm...

Ty,

It's just about done. Just a touch more inking that I should finish tonight and then the clear starts going on. After some internal debate, I decided to just use clear dope for the topcoat. I will probably use catalyzed poly for the cowl, but the rest will be just clear dope.

Hey Randy, you could always load it up and come on over, we can shoot it in the downdraft booth, an  hour later it would be cured ready for the ride home! heck its only a 6 hour drive,,,,
