Title: Novi Update
Post by: Randy Powell on February 19, 2007, 12:46:12 PM
OK, since John posted his AAE updates, I got off my backside and tooks to pictures of the Novi progress. Not as far along as John's, but coming along just the same.

First picture is the completed airframe ready to start finishing.

The second picture is ready for color expcet for a couple of odds and ends I have to finish today before shooting base color on.

See, I am working on it. Projected final weight is 40-42oz. Looks like I might just make it.

Randy,

Should be interesting. 40oz with a PA 40 Merlin. Yeow!

I'm still not sure what the paint will be. I was sort of planning to do a variation on the original paint scheme, but I'm still cogitating. I'll shoot the base on today (white) and then decide on what I want. I've got a bunch of candy concentarate and pearl stuff that I'd like to try all a variation on green.  :)

Looks real purdy Randy, might I suggest a military airshow theme. Air Force Thunderbirds are still open. S?P

Whatever you decide on, I'm sure based on previous efforts, it'll look great.

John,

It's now in base white. Just finished it up a bit ago. The base color is like molassus. I mixed 3oz of color with 8oz of reducer to get it to go through the gun easily. Took two coats to cover and all the paint (but 8oz of thinner will gas off). It'll be interesting to see how much weight I gained in the process.

I'll likely stick with a variation on the original paint scheme. It's a classic and I want to at least give a nod to the original.

Mark,

Well, it's green now. Looks sort of like a lime popscicle. Hmmm...

I'l mess with it some more tonight, but I don't want to shoot much more paint because weight will become an issue. I've taken to calling it the Green Weeny.

Hmmm lime popsicle huh,. well I would personally rather Lime Sherbert, but hey whatevers clever right. I guess the important thing is if you are liking the direction its going. (I know you did test panels first right?) and its not hospital wall green. And of course as you know, anything that is ALL one color never looks as good as when you get the trim on it. I am thinking the trim will add huge especially with this color combination....
(its the power of positive speaking, speak and you will beleive!, and if you just cant stand it when your done, I will relieve you of the burden,, hehe,, wouldnt want you to have to look at it if you despise it you know)

Mark,

Well, it's better now. I shot some more of the popcicle color (candy green) with a liberal dose of green pearls added. More Volkswagon Bug Green now. When the rest of the color goes on, it should look OK.

Randy,

I know your painting it the same as the original, but by my inept thinking  n~ LL~ it would look really cool with orange numbers, letters and pinstriping with the numbers and letters shadowed with black --??

Just a dumb thought  %^@ H^^

Jim,

Well, I'm sort of painting like the original. I'm certainly taking, uh, artistic license with it. A lot. The original was hospital wall green, dark green with a bit of black trim. This one is going to be pearl green, dark forest green pearlcoat, pearl black and a bit of silver (maybe something else). Right now it's pearl green (sort of a candy pearl green) and pearl black. I'll start taping off for the forest pearl green tomorrow. That's where it will really divert from the original. Checkerboard, anyone?

Hi Randy,

Waiting on some pictures of the Novi in color! ;D

I am going to try and get some more trim on my NOVI 11 soon.  So far it is Rise Beige Poly with Plum Crazy and Black trim.  Sorta following the original.

Gonna get some of the RBP made in base coat so that I can finish it up.  I ran out of the acrylic lacquer, and cannot get anymore. :(

Let's see yours!

Bill,

Well, about 10 hours of taping later, it's just about ready for the next color. Just need to tape off the wheelpants tonight and shoot. The main airframe is taped and masked. Fun stuff. I'm pretty sick of looking at it at this point. Be glad when the next color is on. The rest is pretty simple.

I'll post some pictures by the weekend after I get all the color on.
