Since the other thread is getting kinda long, thought I'd start a new one. Here are pictures of the Shoestring in blocking coat.

Mark,

Well, at the moment, it's red and white. Who knows, maybe that's it.   :##

Nah, it will get some yellow. A lot of yellow actually. And maybe some checkerboard and stripes, it needs stripes. And, and, and.  Hmmm... Already carried away.

All right! Pics! That's what I've been waiting for.

I can tell this is going to be one sweet model. Great lines on that thing. I can picture a little checkerboard on it, Randy. And as you well know, I love checkerboard.

Keep 'em comming!

Clint,

Well, it might get some. Seems I may have the time, though the red was fairly simple and took about 3 hours to tape. Truth is, I don't might the taping. It's the masking that gets banefully tedious.

OK, I've been stalled on the thing. But I think I've finally decided what to do. The next trim color should go on tonight (if I can get it all taped. Took awhile to decide where to go with this. The paint scheme I had decided on wasn't really going to work the way I thought, hence the pause while I figured it out. Sigh ... Brain doesn't operate as fast as it used to.

All I can say is, taping checkerboard is a pain. Sheesh! 4 hours and I'm about half done.

Randy, I think I would have tried using frisket cut off the model then transfer it over. Or thats the aproach I would take, but then, I like playing with frisket.
I wont even remind you what you said about a simple job color scheme OK?

remember your having fun,, and when its all masked, you get to spray it,, ?Thats when you enjoy it right, all 5 minutes.
ok ok, I will behave,, Just yankin your chain Randy,, I cant wait to see it. Soon I will be doing an intricate  scheme too, as soon as I have a couple backup airplanes and some more practice flying, lol

Mark,

I agree on the frisket, but when your doing this stuff around a lot of tight, compound curves, frisket just doesn't get it. It can be done with frisket, but it's, I think, even more complicated. Using the 1/8" and 1/16" Finesse pinstripping tape is sure tedious, but I'm actually kinda having fun with it. And I think it will look good in the end. I'm still trying to decide if I want anything else on in after the checks. I don't think so, but we'll see.

The scheme was pretty simple until the checks. My original plan (a sort of small, simple check layout for an accent) just wasn't going to work. So I came up with something different, then I had this idea ... Well, it will be interesting, anyway.

I mixed some yellow up for it that I really kind of like. It was a sort of screaming lemon yellow color (that's actually the name) and I added some red and a tiny bit of black and it's, well, it's an interesting color. The red is just red. Bright fire engine red. Should be fun in the end.

Well, I shot the checkerboard tonight. I'm a bit paranoid about it. I'll pull tape tomorrow and see what we get. I take a picture at this point before moving on to graphics and inking.
