My designs from the 60's - Legal?
« on: August 10, 2020, 05:22:50 PM »
In 1968 I was infatuated with the JD Falcon and Cobra look.  Not being a kit builder I decided to blend the looks and create my own.  What resulted was the "Surveyor" of which I built three.  #1 was in 1968 but it only flew for a short while.  All of my modeling stuff magically disappeared while I was off playing war hero in SEA.  #2 (white picture) was built in 1972 while in the service was scaled up for a Fox 40 and #3 in 1975 like the original except an OS35 instead of the required Fox 35 of the 60's.  The 75 version had a much thicker airfoil but was otherwise the same as the 68.

My question is really a confirmation that I can use this plane in Classic.  No problem in N-30 since I have dated pictures from the 1978 season but only my word that I designed it back in the 60's.  #3 was quite a performer.  #2 was a disappointment.  The Fox 40 was not as strong as I had hoped and at 650 squares and 46 oz it was just too big for the available power.   I want to rebuild #3 electric.

If anybody remembers seeing either of these (white one would have been in the southern Ohio events 1968-1969, blue/red one would have been in the Texas area 75-81) please let me know.

As far as I could be concerned if you designed or built it in the time frame it is legal.
